WAY Internship Program
We are excited to announce the Warner Brothers Discovery Academic Year Internship Program (WAY). This six-month internship, running from the fall through the spring semester, is designed for high-performing rising seniors to be placed into extended internship opportunities. Interns will enhance their professional skills and deepen their understanding of our businesses and culture, ideally positioning themselves for future post grad opportunities to continue their growth and success. Please note that while this internship is an excellent way to prepare for a potential career at WBD, participation in the program does not guarantee a future job offer.
Your New Role
This internship will be located in the DC area. The selected intern will be expected to join us in the office on a regular cadence based on the intern manager’s in office schedule.
Join CNN Digital Design and help shape how millions engage with the news. Our team builds experiences that inform, inspire, and reflect the world we live in, balancing journalistic excellence with thoughtful, audience-centered design.
As a Design Intern, you’ll work closely with partners across Product, Engineering, and Editorial to explore new storytelling and user engagement approaches. You’ll contribute to the early stages of a high-impact, research-informed design initiative within a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
Your Role Accountabilities
Collaborate with product managers, engineers, designers, researchers, editors, and data scientists to support the building and growth of CNN Digital’s product experiences.
Contribute to early-stage design explorations through sketching, wireframes, and low-fidelity prototypes for the Mobile Product Design team
Analyze competitor experiences and help translate insights into actionable design opportunities for our CNN Apps for IOS and Android, phone and tablets.
Present concepts and explorations during team critiques and standups
Assist in documenting design rationale and supporting the evolution of our design system
Participate in user research synthesis and ideation sessions gathering qualitative data to help build hypothesis & design recommendations.
Learn to balance brand, accessibility, and usability standards in a dynamic newsroom environment
Qualifications & Experience
Proficiency in Figma or similar design tools
Knowledge and/or interest in Apps design patterns for IOS and Android
Keen interest in news media user experiences across the digital landscape.
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Curiosity and passion for user-centered design
Experience conducting or interpreting user research
Familiarity with UX methodologies and workflows
Ability to iterate quickly and respond to feedback
Requirements
Must be actively enrolled in an accredited college or university degree program for the full duration of the internship (proof of enrollment required)
