Job Description
The Director of Engineering is responsible for leading the Engineering and Automation Department, which are responsible for the design, development of next generation of Oligo synthesizers.
Leadership duties involve managing and evaluating the performance and skills of direct reports, determining goals, training, and identifying and making improvements to include the areas of: engineering processes, safety, cost and budget, and improving operational efficiencies.
Evaluate the innovation needs of the business and propose collaborative action to mitigate risks and develop opportunities. Develops automation solutions, ensures for solutions data and metrics are accurately developed, collected, analyzed and reported in order to drive continuous improvement of processes.
Oversees hiring, training, performance management, and provides leadership and coaching to ensure a well-trained and motivated and goal oriented work force
Essential Job Duties:
- Promotes and demonstrates workplace safety. Ensures that all environmental policies are to be enforced.
- Directs and coordinates the on-time and on-budget design, development and release of new models and new features to existing models.
- Coordinate with manufacturing to ensure manufacturability of product while maintaining quality, safety and environmental standards and achieving cost targets in a timely fashion.
- Prepare the annual Engineering budget and forecasts and all capital expenditure proposals as well as ensuring compliance with customer and legal requirements.
- Manage the budget from identification to completion of projects.
- Work with the Engineering team to translate strategy into specific annual performance goals and departmental objectives. including KPIs, and to track them
- Report on Engineering activities on a regular basis to the Senior Management team, ensuring accurate and timely reporting of the relevant Key Performance Indicators
- Experience with aligning with Business goals and deliver projects on time
- Ability to understand Liquid Handling techniques and dispense techniques.
- Reviews operations and works with others to resolve production and processing problems.
- Ensure strong communication between teams under leadership to facilitate exchange of information and in order to implement change and improvements.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal performance of all engineered systems.
- Work collaboratively, negotiate and engage with key stakeholders to facilitate delivery and compliance with the engineering strategy
Qualifications
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Advanced degree is preferred; BA/BS degree required
- Min 5-7 years of related experience in the engineering and automation field
- Minimum of 3 years of management and leadership experience
- Proven ability to grasp complex concepts, be creative, and influence multiple departmental and functional processes in a matrixed environment
