Collins Aerospace is currently seeking a qualified candidate to fill the role as the Product Line Software Engineer within the FACE Applications area of the Military Avionics Flight Management Applications department located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  Teams are comprised of cross-functional engineers working in an AGILE environment (approximately 6-10 people) focused on the design and development of software only products. This job is focused on the Software Lead technical aspects of product development related to architecture as well as the design and development process related to software development. In addition, our experienced engineers are involved in all aspects of the product life cycle, from bid and proposal to certification and support. 

The selected candidate can work hybrid from either Cedar Rapids, IA or Huntsville, AL.

Product Summary:

FACE (Future Airborne Capability Environment) - Our software product solutions are used to support not only navigation, flight planning, and guidance with our MFMS-1000 solution, but also hazard avoidance in real time as part of our Avoidance Re-Router (ARR-7000), which are being deployed on a variety of emerging platforms and next generation pursuits. Additionally, our portfolio contains the Collins Transport Services Segment (TSS) which is a key component of the MOSA Strategy. Here’s a couple links to more details:  

What You Will Do:

  • Lead technical decisions that align with the highest standards in quality while maintaining a various product line portfolio and customer contracts.
  • Demonstrate time management skills - ability to work unsupervised, multi-task, and coordinate work.
  • Demonstrate management of the relationship between cost and value . 
  • Succeed while leading in a team environment.  
  • Strong technical skills specifically in system-based development.  
  • Willingness to travel (domestic and international <35%).  

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience.
  • Operational knowledge and experience with F.A.C.E.
  • Experience working across the full software development lifecycle using C/C++, Java, and/or Python.
  • Knowledge of Avionics regulatory and certification requirements: DO-178B/C.
  • Experience in the design and development of deliverable software (production or consumer facing).

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Ability to obtain a DoD Security Clearance (Classified as a US Person).
  • AGILE development experience.
  • Experience in software testing, debugging source code including familiarity with Git, Jira, and/or Bitbucket for configuration management and workflow management.
  • Experience programming in a Unix/Linux based development environment.
