Pay Range

$161,550 - $202,212

This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting; pay will not be below any applicable local minimum wage.  An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.

Job Description

We have an opening for the Deputy Director of Executive Communications. In this role, you will be responsible for the development, execution and measurement of executive communication activities in LLNL’s Director’s Office (DO). This role is in the Office of Strategic Communications (OSC), reporting to the Lab’s chief communications officer.

Leading the work scope of a team of communications professionals, you will manage a suite of executive communications efforts designed to deliver clear and compelling narratives in support of the Lab’s mission, vision, values and strategic goals. You will partner with senior leaders to develop integrated communication strategies in support of key priorities, and collaborate with colleagues in OSC, the DO and throughout the organization to build strongly aligned messaging, communication channels, and content to deliver on important executive communications objectives.

You will:

  • Manage the work scope of a staff of professionals supporting executive communications in the DO.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in OSC, the DO and across LLNL, leading cross-functional teams to develop and implement comprehensive, integrated executive communications plans and products designed to inform, educate, and engage key stakeholders.
  • Partner closely with DO senior leaders to translate strategic priorities and initiatives into compelling, integrated executive communication products with strong message alignment for external and internal audiences.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to build and enhance messaging, communications channels, and content to deliver on key objectives.
  • Provide strategic advice and counsel to senior leadership on various aspects of executive communications.
  • Lead the team in planning, researching, writing, designing, editing and managing a wide array of executive communications products, including engagement plans, talking points, presentations, briefings, fact sheets, position papers, reports, website or online content, and more.
  • Measure the reach, engagement and impact of executive communication efforts.
  • Implement consistent brand standards in communication products that effectively exemplify a strong institutional identity
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications or related field or equivalent level of progressive competence gained through a combination of work-related experience, education, and training.
  • Proven experience in developing high-consequence communication strategies and initiatives for senior leaders.
  • Advanced strategic thinking and ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives.
  • Proven experience serving as a trusted resource to organizational partners and senior leadership.
  • Experience leading the work scope of a multifunctional team, including graphic designers, communications specialists, content strategists, and other communicators.
  • Collaborative leadership style, with a drive to foster a culture of professional excellence and inclusiveness.
  • Passion for creating and executing integrated communication strategies in support of organizational strategic goals.
  • Solid project coordination skills with experience leading a team or directing the work scope of others.
  • Expert written and verbal communication skills with a drive for quality control and excellence.
