Role: Sr. SQL DBA

Location: Local/ Onsite to Minneapolis, MN (must go onsite for the 1st few weeks then a hybrid schedule)

Duration: 6 + months

 

Project Scope

  • Senior-Level Microsoft SQL DBA Job Description with Focus on Workload Separation

 

Job Responsibilities

As a Senior-Level Microsoft SQL Database Administrator (DBA):

  • Responsible for the architecture of the MSSQL implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of critical SQL Server systems ensuring the availability and consistent performance of our enterprise applications.
  • The databases are mostly used to support Microsoft Dynamics AX.
  • Currently, the database operations are located on dedicated Microsoft servers running in Azure VMWare Service, but eventually this may result in the design and deploy of Microsoft SQL PaaS solutions in Microsoft Azure.
  • We also may elect to shift towards Dynamics 365 over time.
  • Monitor and maintain SQL server Mirroring, Log shipping, backups, ETL SSIS jobs, and encryption for purposes of database storage optimization, database health, performance, and security.
  • This role will involve working with other team members to ensure 100% uptime, plan future capacity requirements, maintain security, and apply updates.
  • A part of your role will be to participate in the separation of development, UAT, pre-production, and production workloads.
  • You will be responsible for creating and maintaining separate MSSQL environments for each stage of the development process, ensuring that application changes within Dynamics AX can be promoted smoothly and efficiently through these environments.
  • This may involve working closely with developers and other stakeholders to manage requests for copies of production or UAT databases, and addressing any permissions issues or environmental inconsistencies that arise.
  • Role will be pivotal in ensuring that the separation of workloads does not compromise the overall performance, availability, and security of our SQL databases.
  • Expertise in managing SQL Server databases and your ability to work collaboratively with other team members will be key to your success in this role.
