Job Summary

The Business Development Associate is responsible for business development, including building new health insurance broker relationships and client bases for Flores, and continuing to help build and strengthen the firm’s reputation. With support from leadership, the Business Development Associate interprets our system capabilities and our services for the client’s best use and, generally along with the broker, is the first point of contact for all new clients. The Business Development Associate reports to the Senior Vice President of Sales.
What You’ll Do
The BDA’s primary responsibility is to drive sales within your territory and meet your assigned annual quota. You will be responsible for and manage the sales cycle from building pipeline to closing the deal and handing it off to implementation. To achieve this, you will:
- Strategize with leadership to develop and grow relationships within your assigned territory with brokers and consultants to ensure Flores is a preferred solution for their clients. Use provided tools to seek out new broker relationships and make outreach to establish in-roads with new contacts.
- Collaborate with leadership to gain or maintain necessary technical IRS Code and general employee benefit knowledge regarding CDH accounts, COBRA, ERISA, FMLA and other regulations to address broker and client questions and inquiries.
- Position yourself as a resource to brokers and clients to further drive Flores’ and your personal value in the COBRA, Compliance, CDH, and Leave/FMLA space.
- Work with senior sales leaders to deliver creative benefit administration solutions by helping to define client needs, propose and present solutions. Own the sales cycle from proposal to close, pulling in internal resources as needed.
- Develop sales skills, including outreach, presentation, negotiation, objection handling, and closing skills.
- Field questions and requests from clients, brokers, and Account Managers and provide a high level of customer service.
- Research technical and legal questions posed by clients and Account Managers using internal resources and outside legal resources retained by the firm.
- Partner with marketing resources to ensure constant and consistent messaging of the Flores value proposition throughout your territory.
- Adhere to the Flores sales process, including maintaining accurate records of outreach and meeting activity, pipeline, and sales in the Dynamics365 CRM. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure a smooth transition of new clients and maintain quality work that exemplifies and promotes Flores’ core values.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Travel Requirement: 25 – 40%. You are expected to visit brokers in your territory to maintain strong relationships, attend conferences and other events, and attend an annual sales meeting.
Who You Are
The ideal candidate will have a background or interest in sales and consulting, relationship management, strategy, leading presentations externally and internally, and negotiation, ideally within the healthcare and benefits industry.
- Minimum one to four years’ work experience, ideally in a related field, including benefits administration, health and welfare benefits, third-party administration, HR, account management.
- Experience with the sales cycle. Experience in health and welfare benefits, HR, benefits administration or related field is a plus.
- Sales and business acumen with networking and relationship building skills.
- Good communication skills, including presentation and writing skills.
- Able to collaboratively develop strategy to build, maintain, and expand broker relationships.
