A Brief Overview
The Advanced Practice Provider is responsible for the management and documentation of the medical plan of care prescribed for the patient based on plan adopted jointly by the APP and the supervising physician / medical director. Billing and quality management activities may be part of the responsibilities. The Advanced Practice Provider managed the care of the patients in the following areas: • Cardiology Office – assesses patients; orders appropriate tests; refers subspecialty cardiology clinics as appropriate • Cardiology Inpatient- assess patients and orders appropriate tests and medications; works in conjunction with the physician to help maintain or improve a patient's quality of life. The delivery of professional nursing care at Stormont Vail Health is guided by Jean Watson's Theory of Human Caring and the theory of Shared governance, both of which are congruent with the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
Education Qualifications
- Must be a graduate of an accredited PA/APRN program. Meets educational preparation or other qualifications within specified time frames as determined/outlined by specific department policy.
Experience Qualifications
- Experience in cardiovascular patient care. Preferred
Skills and Abilities
- All APRN incumbents are required to maintain Registered Nurse competencies as designated by Federal and State organizations and as outlined in SVH policy. (Required proficiency)
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. (Required proficiency)
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. (Required proficiency)
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. (Required proficiency)

Licenses and Certifications
- Registered Nurse - KSBN Must have valid APRN licensure. Be certified as a nurse practitioner by a recognized national certifying body that has established standards for nurse practitioners. Required or
- Physician Assistant (PA) - KSBHA Required
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support - ACLS Required within 4 months of hire.
- Additional certifications may be required for certain patient care settings or populations. DEA registration number is required.
What you will do
- Ensures that care delivered to patients is provided according to the Stormont Vail Health mission, strategic plans, and all internal/external regulations, policies, and procedures. Practices within the Kansas Nurse Practice Act/Kansas Board of Healing Arts and within the guidelines of management protocols. Supports the established care models of Stormont Vail Health. Has prescriptive authority per Kansas Nurse Practice Act/Kansas Board of Healing Arts and Stormont Vail Health protocols.
- Understands the pathophysiology and treatment of cardiovascular disease, electrophysiology, interventional cardiology, structural heart and is able to apply this understanding when assessing and treating a patient.
- Plan, implement, manage, and evaluate care for the cardiac inpatients according to protocols or guidelines adopted jointly by the APP and the collaborating physician or within the Nurse Practice Act/Physician Assistant Practice Act. Adjusts patient’s plan of care under the direction of the collaborating physician and approved written protocols.
