Position Summary:

The Department of Biology at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville invites applications for a Health Sciences Program Manager. This is a full-time, 12-month, position starting in May of 2025. The Health Sciences Program Manager will lead the development, implementation, and on-going operations of the academic programs to ensure effectiveness in meeting strategic, departmental, and student development goals. This individual will strive to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive work environment.

We are seeking a candidate with a background in advising and recruiting college students and knowledge of healthcare careers. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, collaborative, and passionate about undergraduate education.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify, propose, and implement new or revised unit operational policies and procedures to comply with regulations, institutional policies, and academic program objectives.
  • May manage the unit budget and approve unit expenditures.
  • Assist stakeholders with preparing and/or maintaining documentation, financial management, and/or reporting requirements related to sponsored grants, contracts, or agreements.
  • Lead the development of new healthcare programming directions including certifications, collaborations, and other opportunities.
  • Evaluate existing academic program strategy and make recommendations to unit leadership for program enhancement.
  • Review and update existing academic articulation agreements with health professional programs.
  • Participate in recruitment and outreach activities to engage with prospective school students and families.
  • Assist faculty in collecting and maintaining data pertaining to the admission of students and alumni to health profession schools.
  • Partner with faculty in advising students and alumni contemplating medical and other health professions (e.g. medicine, physician assistant, nursing and beyond) on the academic and experiential requirements to succeed in the pursuit of the same.
  • Design and deliver programs and resources which support the department’s advising efforts, including workshops and online, on-demand resources.
  • Provide support to faculty advisors to guide students and alumni through the health professional school application process, including, application materials, entrance examinations (e.g. MCAT, DAT, or GRE), personal statements, and interviews, as well as general guidance on professional school financing.
  • Assist faculty advisors in mentoring students in the of Society of Prehealth Students, Rural and Urban Scholars in Community Health (RUSCH), AHEC Scholars, and Preparing Undergraduate Medical Professionals (PUMP).
  • Partner with community organizations, and alumni to develop and promote clinical, research, and other experiential learning opportunities which will make advisees better informed, more competitive candidates for the health professions.
  • Serve as the liaison to internal and external stakeholder groups to identify and maintain academic program-related partnerships.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 2 years of direct experience teaching, coaching, advising and/or mentoring individuals interested in health professions.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Competency in using the MS Office Suite.
  • Ability and willingness to provide excellent service and to work in a collegial manner with students, faculty and staff, and other constituencies is essential.
  • Evidence of a commitment to community & belonging.
  • A strong commitment to undergraduate education and a willingness to collaborate with both students and faculty.
