The Protected Communication Systems (PCS) team is hiring a Senior Systems Security Engineer to support programs for our US military and various international customers, keeping the world safe from foreign threats. PCS supports multiple Collins contracts and is seeking to fill roles across several open contracts – our goal is to align each new hire with a position that best suits their skills and allows for career growth. This is not an IT or programming role—instead this is an embedded cybersecurity role that focuses on technical writing, system security analysis, and requirements assessment. The ideal candidate will be skilled in requirement allocation and decomposition, analyzing system models (Model-Based System Engineering experience a plus), assessing security vulnerabilities, and formal cybersecurity verification (including vulnerability scanning). The candidate will report to the Lead Systems Security Engineer and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
What You Will Do
• Support system certification and accreditation efforts, including NIST Risk Management Framework (RMF) and National Security Agency (NSA) compliance
• Support cybersecurity requirement decomposition, allocation, implementation, and verification utilizing system engineering practices. Analyze system requirements, models, and diagrams to identify potential security vulnerabilities
• Participate in system design discussions and provide security engineering input
• Collaborate with systems engineers and developers to integrate security considerations into system design
• Maintain awareness of evolving security threats and industry best practices
• Work as part of a team, contributing to a culture of collaboration and continuous learning
• Participate in Security focused-System Verification and Validation including writing test plans and procedures, performing test conduct, and providing remediation recommendation analysis
Qualifications You Must Have
• Experience with Risk Management Framework (RMF) and familiarity with NIST RMF and NIAP procedures
• Familiarity with general technical security concepts, technologies, and implementations
• Strong technical writing skills and ability to develop security documentation
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to perform deep dives into system requirements
• Ability to interpret system models, diagrams, and architectures to assess security risks
• Willingness to learn about satellite systems, communication systems, and evolving security technologies
• Active and transferable TOP SECRET clearance is required prior to start date
• U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
• Experience in Systems Security engineering; Must be from an ABET accredited or NCAE-C-designated institution
• Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
Qualifications We Prefer
• Experience with National Security Agency (NSA) cryptographic certification and Cross Domain Solution (CDS) requirements
• Experience with cybersecurity verification activities (including automated vulnerability scanning tools)
• Familiarity with DOORS, JIRA, Cameo, or other system modeling tools (not required, but preferred)
• Advanced Security-related certifications (e.g., CISSP, CEH, etc.) are a plus but not required
