Summary

The Cloud Data Store team (CDS) is innovating cloud storage and rethinking the persistence layer of Temporal in a customized way. We’re solving hard distributed systems problems related to databases and the way storage works for the cloud. [link to cds replay video will go in here somewhere]

The work you will do as a Staff Engineer is key to developing features as the increasing complexity of our systems creates additional challenges. You will design, build, and maintain significant portions of our datastore functionality for highly scalable, multi-tenant services. Examples of the key distributed systems components you can own include computing output state, developing memory cache, and others to build a redundant durable customized database. We’re enhancing reliability, efficiency, and scalability and implementing self-monitoring & self-tuning, (e.gs., cache eviction and resource balancing).Working in a highly collaborative team, we’ll look to build an enhanced enterprise offering that will involve both on-premise and dedicated cloud offerings.

What You'll Do

• Design and implement core backend service features
• Provide appropriate test coverage for unit, integration, and performance for your feature ownership area
• Clearly document design choices and operational knowledge to successfully deploy and run service with those features
• Provide appropriate service level logs and metrics to make features operational for cloud service setup
• Provide appropriate alerts, dashboards, and runbooks for production

What You'll Bring

• At least 5+ years of industry experience designing and building large, highly concurrent, reliable, and scalable distributed systems
• Operational experience in large-scale highly concurrent distributed systems
• Superb coding skills (including concurrency), preferably with Go
• Knowledge and experience to further ensure the high reliability of the Temporal system
• Ideas and actions to improve the velocity of the team

• Experience with infrastructure environments is a strong plus.
• BS in CS or EE or equivalent work experience

Compensation

• The estimated pay range for this role is $185,000 - $240,000
• Additionally, this role is eligible to participate in Temporal's equity plan

Compensation ranges reflect salary and commission compensation (when applicable) across several geographic markets.
