Legal Administrative Assistant

Shumaker is seeking a Legal Administrative Assistant (LAA) to support the firm's corporate and real estate practice areas by carrying out a wide range of administrative duties. The LAA will assist attorneys in the drafting, execution and delivery of documents required to form, merge or acquire, maintain or dissolve business entities, as well as assisting in drafting real estate legal documents such as leases, deeds, purchase agreements and contracts. Our ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of law firm experience with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
This hourly non-exempt position in Toledo, Ohio will be responsible for and accountable to assigned attorneys and the office administrator.
- Writes, proofreads, maintains client matter files, and manages correspondence, memos, pleadings, contracts, forms, indices, and other related documents.
- Receives, reads, and routes incoming mail.
- Transcribes dictation.
- Answers telephone and routine questions. Routes calls as needed to appropriate members within the organization.
- Manages appointments and maintains updated contacts.
- Calendars all relevant deadlines.
- Manages multiple time-sensitive projects.
- Performs other work-related duties as assigned and appropriate for specific area(s) of law as assigned.
- Attend staff meetings.
- Assists other Shumaker legal assistants as needed with workload.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in ongoing educational opportunities.
- Furthers organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests as well as exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
- At least 3 years of legal administrative experience desired, but not required
- Minimum high school diploma or equivalent required
- Standing and walking regularly, up to two hours per day.
- Sitting position, static for up to one-half hour at a time, up to six hours per day.
- Lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds occasionally.
- Bending and stooping regularly, up to one hour per day.
