About the role

Job Description

Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Orion Assembly on a full-time basis.

The Role:

The Controls Engineer will be an Individual contributor with recognized expertise responsible for tasks and work throughout the entire vehicle development lifecycle. Work includes system design and implementation, testing, and problem resolution. This position requires the selected candidate to rotate shifts every 3 months.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities):

  • Responsible for controls engineering & electrical support, controls modifications and continuous improvement of production processes

  • Provide technical support and direction to maintenance and other technical employees within the organization; maintain regular contact with partners outside of direct work group

  • Evaluate or monitor expenditures for processes and/or equipment

  • Lead activities related to TIP (Throughput Improvement Process)

  • Design Tests to efficiently find opportunities for design improvements

  • Stay on top of industry trends, technologies, and standard methodologies

  • Identify and document system vulnerabilities and craft mitigation action plans; track corrective actions

  • Enforces safe work practices as the highest priority

Additional Job Description

Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's Degree with a major in electrical or mechatronics engineering, or equivalent automation controls engineering experience

  • 3 years of Controls Engineering experience

  • Proficiency in industrial networking protocols – Profibus, Profinet, TCP/IP and EthernetIP

  • HMI – Siemens TIA Portal and Rockwell FactoryTalk View 

  • PLC – Rockwell ControlLogix and/or Siemens 1500 families

  • Servo drive systems – Siemens G120 and S120 families, and Rockwell Powerflex and Kinetix

  • Ability to rotate between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift every 3 months

  • Ability to work overtime as needed

What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • 5+ years of controls engineering experience in a manufacturing and/or union represented work environment

  • Fanuc Robot Programming experience

  • Vision Cameras experience or knowledge
