What We Offer

This internship is an on-call position, which means it is a part-time, hourly role. The City and County of Denver offers a competitive pay rate to commensurate with education, with the pay range for this position between $21.42 - $24.14/hour. This position is eligible to enroll in the City and County of Denver’s 457b retirement plan. This position is not eligible for other additional benefits. On-call positions may have routine or variable work schedules.
 


Location Flexibility

The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model with a required 3 days in office. Employees work where needed to support business at Denver International Airport (DEN). We do not offer housing or relocation assistance for this position. Employees must work within the state of Colorado.


Internship Duration and Hours

This is a 1-year internship from Monday, June 1, 2026 - Friday, May 15, 2027, hours typically vary between 20-39 hours a week during the summer and 15-30 hours a week during school semesters. The DENtern’s work schedule will be flexible to accommodate their current academic commitments. Hours not exceeding 39 hours a week or 1,559 hours over a year.

Through the DEN Intern (nicknamed “DENtern”) Program, students gain real world experience in aviation and workforce development while building professional skills. DENterns participate in a cohort-based model that emphasizes networking, collaboration, and professional growth, attending all scheduled professional development sessions, tours, and engaging in impactful projects across the airport.

DEN’s Building Information Modeling (BIM) team is actively seeking a Building Information Modeling DENtern to contribute to their division. As part of DEN's Strategic Plan, Vision 100, which envisions reaching 100 million annual passengers, BIM plays a pivotal role in transforming the aviation industry.
 

As a DENtern on the BIM team you will be part of an industry leading team working with leading edge tools and processes in support of DEN’s asset management program. You will have the chance to develop new technical skills, sharpen presentation skills, learn about aviation, support our strategic plan, and see firsthand what the products of design and construction mean in the operations world. Projects include but are not limited to:
 

  • Project #1: Digital Design & Modeling Support
    • Gain real world experience using advanced digital design tools
    • Support the creation and modification of 3D models using tools such as Revit, AutoCAD, Autodesk Construction Cloud, and Tandem. Help visualize airport infrastructure—including runways, taxiways, facilities, and utilities—while learning how digital design supports construction and airport operations.
  • Project #2: Design Team Collaboration Experience
    • Work alongside project managers, engineers, architects, and contractors to understand how large‑scale infrastructure projects come together. Assist with coordination activities and learn how diverse technical disciplines collaborate to deliver airport projects.
  • Project #3: Airport Infrastructure Impact Projects
    • Support tasks that directly influence airport infrastructure used by millions of travelers. Your contributions will help improve efficiency, safety, and passenger experience across one of the busiest airports in the world.
  • Project #4: Infrastructure Lifecycle & Asset Management Support
    • Explore the full lifecycle of airport infrastructure
    • Assist with tasks related to asset management, including reviewing design documents, construction drawings, survey data, point clouds, or Geographic Information System (GIS) information. Learn how airports manage infrastructure from initial design through construction, maintenance, and long‑term replacement planning.
  • Project #5: Aviation Industry Engagement & Networking
    • Participate in meetings, design reviews, learning sessions, and cross‑department collaborations.
