Graduate Staff Assistants for Faculty Support in the GA Crew assist faculty with a variety of administrative and research tasks. Members of the GA Crew report to the Administrative Support Manager who assigns tasks and provides training and support.  

 

This position is only open to MLIS students admitted or applying for admission to the UW Information School's residential or online MLIS degree program in the 2025-2026 academic year.

 

Responsibilities 

We are looking for an incoming online MLIS student to provide support in the following areas:

  • editing documents 

  • formatting references 

  • locating information and resources 

  • performing reference work 

  • literature searches 

  • conference planning 

  • meeting minutes
  • database management 

  • other research support and administrative duties as needed.

The iSchool anticipates this appointment to be for the full academic year 2025-2026, with a possibility of renewal for Summer 2026 and the 2026-2027 academic year. These positions will average 20 hours per week. For online program students, these hours will be remote.  For residential program students, 15 hours will be scheduled in the office and 5 hours can be performed remotely.

Pay:

The salary for this position could range from $2,984/month - $4,891/month, determined by the Graduate School Regular (Non-Variable Rate) TA/RA/SA Salary Schedule. Qualifications

Requirements 

  • Online MLIS student enrolled at the University of Washington Information School as of Autumn 2025.  

  • Enrolled in a minimum of 10 credits during each quarter of appointment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including copy editing. 
  • Demonstrated positive customer service attitude and ability to work well independently and with others as a team member. 

  • Detail-oriented and superior problem-solving skills; self-reliant in researching solutions to accomplish assignments. 

  • Able to organize and prioritize a competing workload and work effectively under deadlines. 

  • Computer-proficient with fluency in Microsoft Office applications (Word and Excel) including advanced MS Word skills: formatting tables, styles, document structure. 

  • Prior experience working in an office environment.  

  • Ability to work 20 hours per week onsite or remotely as appropriate. 

 

Desired Qualifications 

  • Desktop publishing experience, especially with the Adobe Creative Suite. 

  • Experience creating websites with tools such as WordPress or Drupal. 

  • Basic HTML editing skills. 

  • Experience using Microsoft SharePoint. 

  • Experience with Zotero, EndNote, or other reference managers. 

  • Advanced Excel skills. 

  • Experience using databases. 

  • Knowledge of research methods, statistical packages, or languages (SPSS, R).
