Job Description:

At a senior level, lead and coordinate clinical practice for a population, a department, or community. Ensure that quality, education and patient clinical practice are assessed, implemented and evaluated. Manage and direct programs and projects which facilitate the attainment of management, departmental, institutional and corporate goals.

Principle Responsibilities

  • Coordinate clinical practice for the department or community.
    • Ensure that quality, education, and patient care clinical practice is assessed, implemented, and evaluated.
    • Improve patient outcomes by applying improvement methodology to quality initiatives.
    • Ensure that clinical practice is consistent with care delivery model and professional standards.
    • Review patient records on a concurrent basis to identify opportunities to improve care.
    • Anchor nursing practice to evidence-based information to achieve nurse-sensitive outcomes.
    • Monitor and address issues of safety and risk.
    • May provide ongoing assessment of the patient and collaborate to advance the plan of care.
    • May coordinate discharge and post-hospitalization needs for patients.
    • May participate in the development and implementation of clinical and patient standards and pathways.
    • May do consultation with other disciplines, and coordinate multidisciplinary activities to maximize patient outcomes and satisfaction.
  • Manage and direct programs which facilitate strategic, quality and operational planning for a department, program or population.
    • Manage projects which facilitate attainment of management, departmental, institutional and corporate goals.
    • Support organizational performance improvement.
    • Collaborate to develop and implement department plans.
    • Provide leadership for compliance with regulatory standards, professional practice guidelines and standards.
    • Lead the implementation of standards of practice, protocols and guidelines.
    • Coordinate development and revision of policies and procedures.
    • Coordinate and evaluates safety and emergency preparedness plans.
    • Participate in councils and committees in a collaborative governance structure.
    • Facilitate gathering and analysis of data and information for identification of issues and evaluation of progress.
    • Support performance improvement teams by developing project plans, supporting improvement trials, and monitoring critical success factors.
    • May act as a resource in the utilization review process to optimize documentation.
    • May work with external agencies and providers to enhance patient care.
  • Provide leadership for orientation and staff development programs.
    • Lead individuals and teams to design, implement, and evaluate orientation programs.
    • Lead individuals and teams to design, implement, and evaluate staff development programs.
    • Develop educational tools.
    • Teach / facilitate educational offerings for staff and providers.
    • Coordinate learning experiences for students and other learners.
    • Mentor nurses and work collaboratively with nurses to develop new skills, apply research to practice and develop careers.
  • Lead and coordinate teams for care improvement.
    • Lead the integration of quality, education and practice goals and initiatives.
    • Maintain knowledge of current best practices related to the population or specialty.
    • May supervise individuals.
    • May lead multidisciplinary conferences, case reviews, and presentations for care improvement.
    • May participate in research activities for care improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Nursing or allied health within clinical specialty
  • 5+ years of leadership experience
  • 5+ years of clinical experience
  • 5+
