Product Design Engineer
Snap Inc.About the role
Snap Inc is a technology company. We believe the camera presents the greatest opportunity to improve the way people live and communicate. Snap contributes to human progress by empowering people to express themselves, live in the moment, learn about the world, and have fun together. The Company’s three core products are Snapchat, a visual messaging app that enhances your relationships with friends, family, and the world; Lens Studio, an augmented reality platform that powers AR across Snapchat and other services; and its AR glasses, Spectacles.
Snap Lab is home to our hardware products with a world-class research & development team. We are focused on pushing the boundaries of what a camera can be, specifically overlaying computing on the real world. Next Generation Spectacles are our first pair of glasses that bring augmented reality to life.
At Snap Lab in Paris, we develop a Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) to revolutionize the way humans interact with AR. We’re looking for a Mechanical Engineer to help us shape the future of neural interface technology.
You will work on proofs of concept toward the integration of novel BCI technology into wearables, from research phases to the design of integrated solutions.
What you’ll do:
From preliminary CAD models, mock-ups, proof of concept and final detailed design, you will work toward the integration of novel BCI technology into wearables. You will be involved from the early research phases to the design of integrable solutions.
Identify new design opportunities:
Identify design tracks to serve current and future project developments by collaborating with research and engineering teams.
Conduct state of the art research for materials, technology in the field of BCI and EEG (electroencephalogram) sensors technology.
Participate in brainstorming with the teams to identify new opportunities for the development of hardware for BCI solutions.
Design proof of concept and tools:
Develop and conduct technical experiments to select designs, materials, and technologies.
Design proof of concept and test tools to validate ongoing developments integrating constraints linked to wearable devices and Human factors.
Identify designs with high potential of integration.
Detailed design and validation:
Transform proof of concept and identified solution into product features to integrate in a wearable device.
Define validation and performance test plan.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Proficiency in 3D CAD and top-down CAD design (CREO preferred)
Wide knowledge of engineering materials and manufacturing methods from prototyping to mass production.
Good knowledge in design for wearable products dealing with human Factors considerations.
Good understanding of mechanical simulations using FEM and FEA.
Interest and knowledge in “biosensor materials” would be appreciated.
Excellent process development and documentation skills
Excellent team spirit with willingness to share and make the team progress.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in a related field such as mechanical engineering and applied mechanics
5+ year experience performing mechanical and structural simulations in the context of product design
Experience with parametric 3D design modeling (NX, SolidWorks, CREO)
Experience with prototyping and manufacturing techniques (machining, 3D printing, injection molding, casting, soft goods etc.)
Fluency in English
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with consumer electronics and wearables
Conversation-level French
Passion for creating innovative, high quality products
