The Mechanical Department Head manages a team of Mechanical, Plumbing and Fire Protection Professionals as well as outside consultants in the work of; defining the project, communicating project specific scope by using a combination of technology and in person meetings. This position requires strong organizational and communication skills to meet the deadline driven nature of our work.
Department Head Job Functions:
- Participate in the preparation of drawings and specifications based on verbal direction and redline drawings.
- Oversee Preparation of Revit/CAD files for project documentation and closeout.
- Supervise Revit modeling including the creation of Revit families.
- Establish intertrade coordination expectations and model exceptional collaboration.
- Develop and train Designers and Drafters with in-house training seminars.
- Be involved in business development and customer relationship management.
- Collaborate with different divisions of the organization to drive and deliver design/build work.
- Serve as a mentor by leveraging experience organization wide.
- Work with senior leaders, department manager and staff on P&L delivery.
Leadership and People Development
- Drives development planning, identifies or creates opportunities, and maintains accountability for team members around their plans.
- Provide regular feedback to direct reports concerning their performance and progress against their career and business objectives.
- Manage and mentor a growing team to ensure high-quality work.
- Create a supportive team environment that stresses the importance of collaboration and team learning, including professional growth from successes and failures.
To be successful, you will need to possess a strong mentality that drives the facilitation and maximization of ongoing growth of the department. This role collaborates across multiple stakeholders translating design directives and strategy into draft and then site-specific solutions that provide the best value for the overall project. Exceptional leadership and engagement skills, attention to detail, and an ability to simplify process and drive effective execution in a multi-format, multiple location roll out are requirements for this position.

Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from an ABET accredited program. PE Required.
- Ability to apply engineering principles including, but not limited to: heat transfer, fluid dynamics, incompressible flow, thermodynamics, hydrostatics, economics and engineering ethics.
- Mechanical design experience and CAD drafting, both AutoCAD and Revit
- Willingness to learn AutoCAD and Revit software packages is required.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with project managers, engineers, designers and other team members.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent organizational and prioritizing skills.
- Attention to detail and willingness to apply innovative thinking.
- Ability to work efficiently in a deadline-driven environment.
