Job Duties

The purpose of this position is to provide highly complex professional, analytical, and technical expertise, leadership, and outreach to parents, teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders invested in improving the quality and effectiveness of teaching and learning for comprehensive K-12 Health Education, Physical Education, Family Life Education, and Driver Education programs that contribute to the well-being and holistic development of all students in the commonwealth. Responsibilities for this position are multifaceted and involve overseeing, managing, and guiding a team of program specialists engaged in decision making related to Health, Physical, Family Life, and Driver Education curricula, complex projects, statewide initiatives, and strategic tasks aimed at ensuring successful implementation and operation of high-quality educational programming for all students in Virginia. These responsibilities also include assisting with periodic reviews and implementation of the Health, Physical, Family Life, and Driver Education Standards of Learning and providing information, services, assistance, expertise, and leadership in:
● reviewing, developing, organizing, implementing, correlating, and evaluating health, family life, physical, and driver education curriculum resources, data and assessment materials, and best practices that ensure consistency in education across divisions.
● developing, administering, and implementing projects, innovative activities, and services, and interpreting policies, procedures, and legislation that impact health, family life, physical, and driver education programs and student achievement; and
● serving as a member of a team that provides collaborative services across all subject areas related to STEM education to ensure all students receive a high-quality education and are prepared for the next stage of their personal, academic, and professional lives.

Minimum Qualifications

• Considerable knowledge of the Virginia Standards of Learning educational objectives, local school divisions in Virginia, local and state government policies, roles and procedures, and state and inter-agency functions.
• Extensive experience as a division program coordinator for health, physical, family life and driver education.
• Substantial experience with the development and implementation of curricula, professional development, assessment, and high-quality instructional resources.
• Considerable knowledge of the juvenile licensing process, traffic laws, multi-agency functions, and state regulations.
• Recognized as an expert in health education, physical education, family life education, and driver education content trends, research, and best practices.
• Ability to effectively analyze and implement new laws and regulations with fidelity across all school divisions.
• Considerable knowledge of resource allocation, budgets, and project management.
• Highly developed interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to communicate clearly, manage time and workload, adjust workflow to meet new or emerging priorities, forecast developing trends, and work collaboratively with other agencies and lead staff members on complex initiatives.
• Skills in utilizing computer software for word processing, graphical presentation, databases, spreadsheets, and other technological systems and resources to complete assigned responsibilities.
• Ability to define problems and apply problem-solving techniques to complex educational issues related to driver education, health and wellness, kinesiology, and STEM education; to apply research methods; to work effectively with support staff and teams of professionals; to manage the completion of multiple assignments and/or projects with critical deadlines; and to coordinate, critique, and edit work products of a diverse staff of specialists, and technical and professional experts.
• Ability to research, analyze, and effectively communicate complex information to various audiences using collaborative approaches.
