Overview

The Administrator - Communications and Media Relations supports, manages, and assists with External and Internal Communications, and Media relations for the City of Dallas. Administers and manages the professional communication of information, direction, and implementation of communications for City programs, services, and projects.

This role will be expected to maintain a very public profile and to establish effective working relationships with City employees, elected officials, community organizations, business enterprises, the media, special interest groups, and other interested individuals. And will act as the City spokesperson who can effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.

Essential Functions

1 Collaborates with the City departments to promote a positive image of the City through the development and dissemination of information and digital media.

2 Supports, administers, and manages all outreach, internal and external communications, and outreach initiatives to ensure the needs of the community and City services are being met; ensures staff is effectively, efficiently, and professionally communicating services to community members and the public; works with subordinate managers to facilitate effectiveness.

3 Oversees the City's media relations strategy, while maintaining key relationships with local, regional, and national news outlets (traditional print, social publications, and broadcast) to increase knowledge of the City’s programs through news releases.

4 Serves as the City’s spokesperson to represent the City for various target audiences.

5 Assigns, delegates, and manages personnel providing outreach, and promoting communications; ensures activities, materials, and outreach support and engage the community, maximize program awareness, and foster relationships to provide assistance.

6 Writes, edits and produces high-quality multimedia content to support diverse communications needs including, but not limited to official press releases, newsletters, social media channels, the City’s television channel, live streaming of public meetings, and the City's website.

7 Facilitates, and supports interactions within the community; conducts and leads meetings, supports large scale initiatives, and develops strong community partnerships; analyzes and evaluates activities to ensure effectiveness and provides feedback to Deputy Director.

8 Collaborates and works closely with internal and external partners and agencies to provide services; resolves challenging concerns and addresses obstacles to effective communications; directs, administers, and leads community focused events designed to engage social service providers and encourage a sense of pride and responsibility in the community.

9 Assists in the direction and development of marketing materials to convey information; represents the City of Dallas to residents, businesses, churches, schools, environmental groups, neighborhood associations, City Council, and other departments.

10 Oversees and manages hiring and general personnel management, implements new and improved methods to increase productivity, transparency, communication standards, and translation services; provides performance evaluation and feedback and works to make the department a more effective part of the organization.

11 Assists the Director and Deputy Director with the development and delivery of communications training programs for City departments.

12 Manage the development, content creation, timely production, and distribution of special City publications including but not limited to annual reports, magazines, newsletters, brochures, and online content.
