Bachoco OK Foods is seeking a Sr. Benefits Manager for our Fort Smith, AR location. 

 

Summary: The Sr. Benefits Manager leads the benefit department in support of the human resource function through programs designed to provide security and a sense of well-being for employees and family members, cost-effective programs that increase the company's competitive position as an employer, and guide the company through the minefield of state and federal rules, laws and programs.                                                

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provides the benefits department with leadership, strategic direction, and support.
  • Evaluates and compares existing company benefits with those of other employers and national trends by analysis, surveys, and participation in local and national organizations. Analyzes results and develops management summaries and specific recommendations for review by executive benefits committee.
  • Develops specifications for new plan or modifies existing plans to maintain company's competitive position in the labor market and obtains uniform competitive benefit packages.
  • Installs new programs or modified programs/changes by preparing announcement materials, marketing packages, booklets, brochures, and other media for communicating information to employees and plan members. Conduct and coordinate employee meetings and arrange for enrollment of employees in optional plans. Revise and reissue all communications from time to time.
  • Advises and consults management and employees on existing benefits and benefit issues. Provides management with a better understanding of benefits issues and ramifications of suggested changes.
  • Communicates with insurance companies, third-party administrators, agents, brokers, and consultants concerning current plans, modifications to those plans, and possible options for future.
  • Prepares and executes, with legal consultation, benefit documentation such as original and amended plan texts, benefit agreements and insurance policies. Instructs insurance carriers, trustees, and other administrative agencies outside the company to effect changes in benefit programs. Ensures prompt and accurate compliance.
  • Represents the company at local benefits/HR related organizations.
  • Assures company compliance with provisions of ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA and other state and federal government programs. Supervises preparation of reports and applications required by law to be filed with federal and state agencies. Reviews and analyzes changes to laws and coordinates company benefits with government sponsored programs.
  • Coordinates and monitors provisions of the company 401(k) retirement plan to ensure prompt and accurate compliance through the plan administrator. Analyzes reports and makes recommendations to management concerning plan modifications, plan rules and performance.
  • Assists plan auditors with annual plan audits. Accumulates and assembles requested documentation, reports, and data for timely completion of the audit process. Facilitates communication with and between auditors and plan administrator.
  • Directs, monitors, and reviews the actions and effectiveness of the company provided medical clinics. Coordinates operations of the clinics with the needs of the company and influences the operations within the clinics. Evaluates utilization and quality operations of clinics.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: Manages one supervisor who supervises a total of five employees in the Benefits Department. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
