ms consultants, inc. is actively seeking a Senior Water Resources Engineer for immediate employment to work in our Raleigh office. The successful candidate will support the Water Resources group in leading projects and serving on project teams planning and designing water resources focused infrastructure for public works and privately owned projects.

What You'll Do:

The ideal candidate will be responsible for the planning and execution of projects assigned to the water resources engineering division, as well as providing expertise to other company divisions. The candidate will be driven personally and professionally and poised for growth in the North Carolina market.

  • Use knowledge of hydrologic, hydraulic and water quality analysis to perform calculations, computer modeling and design;
  • Develop and manage projects involving HEC software suite and GIS applications or other similar software. Use FEMA flood hazard mapping and hydraulic modeling software to identify flood hazards, assess flood risks and partner with clients to provide accurate flood hazard and risk data to guide them through mitigation actions;
  • Manage or complete design work for storm water management/best management practices (BMPs), roadway drainage design, municipal stormwater improvements and flood mitigation, and erosion and sediment control. Understand and meet technical standards and regulatory requirements, from agencies including but not limited to NCDOT and other Departments of Transportation;
  • Work as part of a multi-discipline team to coordinate work with other design teams both inside and outside of the organization;
  • Oversee the preparation of construction drawings, technical reports and documents to support the water resources group on various projects;
  • Remain informed of new developments and systems as they influence the division’s engineering practice and design. Manage design tasks, client interactions and perform engineering assignments requiring application of engineering techniques, procedures and criteria;
  • Perform project and task management duties, as necessary.
  • Manage projects as a Technical Lead and coordinate work with other staff members.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or other relevant field;
  • Professional Engineer license in North Carolina;
  • Relevant experience in Water Resources engineering, Transportation engineering, Stormwater Management or Site Civil/Land Development Engineering.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of relevant local regulations and projects or tasks is preferred;
  • Hydraulic modeling & engineering experience for evaluations, investigations, planning, feasibility studies and modeling of riverine and stormwater systems;
  • Knowledge and experience with industry standard computer software required in the field, including software such as MicroStation, Civil 3D, Open Roads Designer, GIS, and Modeling Applications (SWMM, HEC-RAS (1D, 2D), HEC-HMS, etc.);
  • Capable of using spreadsheet, word processing and standard office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project).
