Role

This role is based in the Securities Lending Corporate Actions team.  The team provides operational support in respect of manufactured corporate action entitlements for Northern Trust’s clients primarily in the US, Canadian and Brazilian markets.  The team supports Northern Trust’s agency lending program, client directed lending and 3rd party lending arrangements.

The primary responsibility of the Securities Lending Corporate Actions Senior Analyst is to process all forms of corporate event entitlements for securities on loan. 

The role requires excellent analytical and investigative skills, previous experience in corporate actions processing and effective communication skills.  There is an expectation that the individual will have the ability to identify appropriate opportunities to improve straight-through processing, and look to enhance best practice. 

The role requires close liaison with a number of Securities Lending areas (including Trading Desk, Client Services, Reconciliation Teams and other operations teams in London and Bangalore), other internal partners such as Custody Corporate Actions and external counterparts at our sub-custodians, borrowers and lending agents.

Major duties

  • Monitor corporate event notifications received from sub-custodians, regional custody entitlements teams and borrowers.

  • Liaise with borrowers to ensure they are duly pre-advised of corporate events for securities on loan.

  • Ensure borrowers are promptly advised of client election instructions and that entitlements are accurately processed in a timely manner.

  • Liaise with the regional Custody Entitlements teams and other Securities Lending areas (e.g. Trading Desks, Collateral Desk, Trade Support, Control) as necessary to minimize NT’s exposure.

  • Ensure exceptions (stock, cash and suspense) are reviewed and cleared on a timely basis, escalating issues where appropriate.  Ensure exception narrations as entered in Northern Trust’s exception monitoring applications are self-explanatory, logical, up-to-date and according to business standards.

  • May manage daily operational activities and supervise day-to day- work of junior level employees (but not a formal management role)

Skills

  • A basic understanding and experience of processing various types of Corporate Actions events a plus. 

  • Some experience in a Securities Lending processing environment is beneficial. 

  • Knowledge of reconciliation processes is advantageous. 

  • Accuracy with a strong attention to detail. 

  • Delivers a work product that requires less revision

  • Able to facilitate discussions and reach decisions

  • Strong questioning skills to determine nature of a problem and assess implications. 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.  This role will require the ability to deal confidently and articulately with external counterparties.

  • Able to set priorities and manage deadlines, escalating issues where necessary. 

  • Good team player, self-starter, flexible, with the ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision. 

  • Able to work in a changing environment, recognize opportunities for improvement and make constructive suggestions.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.

Experience

  • College/University degree and/or some relevant work experience is preferred.
  • Related Industry experience or qualifications is preferred.
  • Two or more years of Securities Operations experience is preferred.

Salary Range:

$47,500 - 71,300 USD<
