About the role
The Project Kuiper Enterprise Technology organization owns the software, services, and infrastructure that enables our program to build the future of LEO Satellite based broadband services. We build with Amazon Web Services (AWS) technology and best-of-breed third-party software to develop the right solutions for our team to succeed.
As the VP Software, you will own Global Network/Telecom Services, Flight Software, and Embedded/OS Development. This role is primarily focused on scaling our operational capabilities and keeping up with the growing scale and complexity of the business.
We need a leader who has experience in building effective engineering teams, with the ability to dive deep and lead the business through a customer-focused roadmap. The role will also have a lot of interaction with larger organizations outside of Project Kuiper, including AWS. As with all teams in Project Kuiper, it is a fast-moving area with a demanding roadmap, so a high bias for action and proven mechanisms for driving delivery across the organization are a must.
Key job responsibilities
• Build the services and infrastructure for Kuiper
• Build the networking software (control plane, data plane) and implement networking architecture end-to-end
• Lead customer terminal and gateway software development end-to-end, leading to AWS cloud
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM) or related discipline
• US Citizenship or Permanent Resident (Green Card) required
• 15+ years professional experience in commercial system software development and delivery
• 8+ years of experience building, leading, managing and mentoring geographically distributed, high-performance engineering teams
• Deep understanding of computing systems, software architecture, data structures and algorithms
• Hands-on experience with embedded and cloud-native software
• Demonstrated experience building and launching V0->1 products to scale
• Experience running a new, complex, and high-growth business
• Extensive background in telecommunications industry
• Track record of high-scale technology launches – e.g., millions of customers, thousands of transactions per second, milliseconds of latency, et cetera
• Demonstrable experience and commitment to driving sophisticated talent management practices to ensure both retention and attraction of some of the world’s top engineering talent
