Arthrex is a global medical device company and leader in orthopedics medical education. With a corporate mission of Helping Surgeons Treat Their Patients Better™, Arthrex has pioneered the field of arthroscopy and develops more than 1,000 innovative products and procedures each year that support all aspects of orthopedics. The Orthopedic Research Department in Naples, FL is responsible for supporting all benchtop and clinical research testing endeavors across all product portfolios. Specifically, the Biomechanical Research Team is responsible for mechanical and biomechanical research studies to create timely scientific evidence for our techniques and products. We are searching for a Co-op pursuing a degree in Biomedical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering to support the Biomechanical Research Team. The successful candidate will work on cadaveric research studies, perform tasks as literature review, biomechanical testing, data capture and analysis, and manuscript writing. All lab work will require PPE and will be supervised by an engineer of the research team. 

 

This Co-op will run from July 2024 – December 2024. The ideal candidate will have the availability to work 40 hours per week at our Naples, FL facility.

 

Main Objective: 

To assist the biomechanical research study team with the organization of research studies, literature research, dissections, study design, and record keeping. To assist in ongoing data organization and filtering tasks for the study database (ORBIt). 

  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Assist research engineers with research studies, organization, literature research and study designs. 
  • Test sample preparations including dissections. 
  • Product testing including tensile, compression, torsion, and bending test methods. 
  • Data analysis including statistical computations and graphical representations of outcome measures. 
  • Data entry, record keeping, organization, and filtering for research study database (Microsoft Power Platform). 
  • This is an in-office position located in Naples, FL; it is not a remote position.

  

Education and Experience: 

  • Progress towards a college degree in Engineering required, preferably in Biomedical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering. Rising junior or above preferred. (Students who have recently graduated are only eligible to work as an intern/co-op up to six months from their graduation date.) 
  • Must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  • Biomechanical lab experience preferred.  
  • Publication experience preferred.

  

Knowledge and Skill Requirements/Specialized Courses and/or Training: 

Advanced computer skills. Be able to follow written and verbal direction. 

  

Machine, Tools, and/or Equipment Skills: 

PC; Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook; PowerPoint; Word and Excel.
