Job Description

The Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator I, under direct supervision, assists in the management of the Texas A&M University-Kingsville, environmental health and safety program. The position coordinates within the full spectrum from preventative mitigation to assessment reporting as well as other related activities (ie: training, monitoring, sampling, mitigation, building proctor, and after-hours emergency response). The position supports all aspects of a full-service EHS program to ensure a safe, healthy and comfortable working and living environments for employees, student, and visitors. The position adheres to requirements to ensure compliance with applicable Federal, State, and local regulatory agencies, as well as Texas A&M University System (TAMUS) policies and regulations.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conducts regular inspections of teaching and research laboratories for safety compliance according to TCEQ, NFPA, and TAMUS guidelines.

  • Conducts residence hall and dining facilities inspections along with residence hall and dining staff for humidity and mold prevention.

  • Works closely with Facilities Management, Residence Life, Dining Services, and Campus Operations to ensure timely communication, coordinated response, and consistent mold prevention practices across all facilities.

  • Provides inspection reports, letters, information, and support to ensure correction of related violations, inadequacies, objectives, programs, etc.

  • Assists other Safety Office and Campus Operations staff with water mitigation efforts during emergencies.

  • Assists with hazardous waste collections and coordinates waste collections with waste contractors and maintains records of waste collections.

  • Provides technical expertise to staff regarding hazard evaluations, recommendations, and follow-ups related to safety, indoor air quality, water mitigation, and mold prevention

  • Coordinates sampling, presents programs, trainings, and briefings to personnel and various organizations on support and implementation of programs.

  • Maintains comprehensive manuals, guides, checklists, presentations, procedures, and policies for programs as well as the review of proposed research and sponsored program projects to determine impact on environmental health, safety, and risk management

  • Ensures related equipment is maintained, tested, and inspected and that any mandated inspections are scheduled and accomplished on time.

  • Maintains current knowledge of applicable laws and requirements. Complies with regulatory agencies and National guidelines such as, but not limited to, Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), Texas Department of Health (TDH), Texas Department of State Health Services (TXDSHS), Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), National Fire Protections Association (NFPA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Provides support for the liaison relationship with varied regulatory agencies.

  • Assists in the investigation of injury incidents that occur to employees and visitors administering preventive remedies to mitigate recurrence. Must be able to promptly respond in person, on site, to after-hours emergencies and may be part of a on call rotation.

Minimum Requirements

Education -Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health and Safety or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience- Experience in environmental health and safety preferred

Education – Two years of related Experience

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Knowledge of - Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.

Skills in – Skills in Interpersonal and communication skills.

Skills in – Skills in planning and organizational skills.

Ability to -Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Licensing/Professional Certification - Valid State of Texas driver's license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment. Failure to obtain license may result in termination.
