Job Description
The Environmental Business Line of AECOM is seeking an Environmental Scientist/Asbestos and Lead Inspector for immediate employment with the EHS Department in the Boston, MA, Chelmsford, MA, or Germantown, MD office.
The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate at least 2 years of experience directly applicable to building hazardous material (asbestos, lead paint, etc.) surveys, abatement oversight, and design projects.
The successful candidate will have enough experience to be able to independently conduct field work and prepare the associated reports for a wide variety of building hazardous material projects/surveys. The position will require that the candidate be available to perform work in both the field and office and be able to travel out-of-town for durations ranging from one week to three months, as needed.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- BA/BS + 2 years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
- 2 years of technical experience directly related to building hazardous material (asbestos, lead paint, etc.) surveys, abatement monitoring, and design projects.
- Must have 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training.
- Must have EPA AHERA Asbestos Inspector Certification.
- Must have EPA Lead Inspector Technician Certification
- Due to the nature of work US citizenship required.
- Valid Driver’s License and must be able to pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records review.
Preferred Requirements:
- Ability to perform asbestos and lead paint surveys/inspections independently in the field.
- Ability to interact with architects and engineers on fast-paced building renovation designs requiring the development of asbestos/building hazardous materials program requirements, drawings, specifications, and design narratives.
- One or more of the following certifications: EPA Asbestos Management Planner, EPA Asbestos Project Designer, EPA Asbestos Supervisor, EPA Lead Risk Assessor. State specific (MA or MD) licenses and certifications pertaining to asbestos.
- Project management experience related to asbestos and other hazmat projects.
- Industrial hygiene and indoor air quality experience.
- Highly effective verbal and written communication skills; extremely proficient in technical writing; highly effective organization and multi-tasking skills.
- Must have the required skills to perform field surveys independently with no supervision, as well as to be able to produce the written deliverable in the office.

- Willing to travel out-of-town for durations ranging from approximately one week to three months, as needed. Travel will vary greatly and depend on the workload/projects at any given time.
- Offered rate of compensation (Maryland) will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position typically is $61,143 - $77,347/yr.
