Job Description Summary & Additional Information

OVERVIEW: The Graduate Community Coordinator (GCC) reports to a Full Time Staff Member in the Department of Fraternity and Sorority Life (DFSL). The GCC duties include providing live-in oversight of University-owned fraternity and sorority chapter houses, assisting alumni advisors and House Corporation members primarily in maintaining the chapter facilities and secondarily in supporting the operation of the undergraduate chapters in the facilities along with an advising responsibilities as assigned (e.g. Graduate Assistantships).

TERM: This agreement is for the 2026-2027 academic year, from July 26, 2026, to July 24, 2027, or upon graduation or withdrawal from classes. The GCC agreements are not automatically renewed annually. Staff members seeking to return must submit an intent to return form prior to being offered a new agreement. Reappointment is not guaranteed.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Policy Knowledge and Communication: Understand and effectively communicate DFSL departmental and university policies, mission, vision, and guiding philosophies, while maintaining open communication with staff and stakeholders.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Actively meet and collaborate with chapter officers, alumni, House Corporations, and other stakeholders to support and enhance chapter and facility operations.

  • Facility and Administrative Oversight: Ensure facilities are well-maintained and foster a positive living/learning environment through tasks like security, maintenance, safety, inspections, and vendor management.

  • Special Project and Professional Development: Fulfill diverse responsibilities, including advising, event management, training, and hazing prevention, while engaging in staff activities, retreats, and professional growth opportunities.

  • Duty and Emergency Response: Participate in a regular on-duty rotation to address facility and community issues, maintain safety, and respond to emergencies, demonstrating mature and adaptable decision-making.

SPECIAL PROJECTS

Accountability - This position advises accountability leaders across all four fraternity & sorority councils, overseeing judicial policies and ensuring fair hearings and proper follow-up on sanctions.

Assessment - This position will oversee assessment and training for the department. Additionally, this person will sit on the SAALOG committee, and engage with the various sources of assessment conducted within DFSL (sexual assault prevention, diversity and inclusion, program/eval).

Chapter Expectations & Sustainability Programs - This position advances the Chapter Expectations (CHEX) & Sustainability programs and supports the annual Fraternity & Sorority Leadership Awards.

HR/Finance - This position will assist with the DFSL Human Resources (HR) and financial operations by working closely with the Assistant Director for Human Resources and Finances.

IFC, MGC, NPHC, & PHA Council Support (four positions available) - This role supports council functions, focusing on programming and leadership development for one of the four governing councils. It involves advising, attending meetings and programs, and completing administrative tasks.

Risk Management - This role supports harm reduction and wellness programming within the department, focusing on risk management in a fraternity/sorority context.

Staff Experience & Culture - This position supports the development of a positive culture and experience for DFSL Graduate Assistants, focusing on onboarding, development, professional growth, and belonging.

TIME COMMITMENT:

As a general guideline, GCC should anticipate an average of 20 hours per week of regularly scheduled responsibilities (e.g., time in the facility, staff meetings, duty, other advisory responsibilities, Graduate Assistantship responsibilities). Before opening and closing dates, GCC should expect to devote an increased amount of time in their house.

Houses are open year-round except during Winter break when the University and chapter facilities close for one week (GCC will need to use time away for any time outside of Dec. 25 - Jan 1.).
