Our Ideal Candidate Will
The Lead Shipping Clerk plays a key role in coordinating the efficient and accurate movement of products throughout the warehouse and distribution process. Reporting to the Traffic Manager, this position performs shipping and receiving activities while providing day-to-day work direction, prioritization, training, and operational support to shipping personnel. The role is responsible for coordinating outbound shipments, verifying inventory and documentation, maintaining shipping supplies, operating material handling equipment, resolving shipment issues, and supporting safe, on-time execution. The ideal candidate is organized, safety-conscious, detail-oriented, dependable, and able to lead by example in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Requirements
We are searching for a candidate with:
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
Minimum of 2–4 years of shipping, receiving, warehouse, or distribution experience, including experience coordinating the work of others.
Proficiency in using warehouse management systems, ERP systems, shipping software, or inventory management software.
Ability to accurately prepare and process shipping documents, packing slips, purchase orders, and shipping labels.
Experience verifying inbound and outbound shipments for quantity, quality, and accuracy against supporting documentation.
Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel) and data entry.
Ability to identify discrepancies in shipments, inventory, and documentation and resolve issues promptly.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred.
Demonstrated ability to assign daily work, establish priorities, monitor completion, and communicate operational issues to supervision.
Ability to train and coach employees on shipping procedures, ERP transactions, material handling, documentation accuracy, and safe work practices.
Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills with the ability to respond effectively to schedule changes and shipment exceptions.
Duties and Responsibilities
A typical day may include:
Coordinate and perform daily shipping and receiving operations, including loading and unloading trucks, verifying incoming merchandise, and preparing outbound shipments.
Read and interpret customer orders, work orders, and shipping documentation to accurately pick, pack, stage, and ship materials.
Match purchase orders with sales orders and distribute documentation for processing.
Safely operate a forklift to transport materials between receiving, storage, production, and shipping areas.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe warehouse while adhering to company policies and health and safety regulations.
Label, identify, weigh, and verify materials to ensure shipment accuracy and compliance with company quality standards.
Record shipping, receiving, and inventory transactions accurately using the company's inventory or shipping management system.
Assist with cycle counts and physical inventory to maintain accurate inventory records and report discrepancies.
Monitor and maintain shipping supplies and notify management of replenishment needs.
Lead the daily start-of-shift review for the shipping area, confirm priorities, assign work, and adjust labor based on shipment volume, carrier schedules, and production requirements.
Coordinate with the Traffic Manager, Customer Service, Production, Planning, Warehouse, and Quality teams to resolve shipment constraints and support on-time delivery.
Review outbound orders for completeness, shipment priority, packaging requirements, carrier instructions, and required customer or export documentation before release.
Monitor the daily shipping schedule and carrier pickup commitments; escalate risks, missed pickups, shortages, damaged material, and documentation discrepancies promptly.
