POSITION TITLE: Mechanic 5

ASSIGNMENT: Mechanic 5 � Heat, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) - Facilities

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A high school diploma or equivalent or trade school certificate
  2. Three (3) years documented experience in the particular trade or craft
  3. A valid Florida Commercial Driver's License or agrees to obtain within ninety (90) days
  4. Physical Requirements: Ability to do strenuous physical tasks during the performance of duties, to include lifting up to 100 pounds, crawling, kneeling, bending, stooping, pulling, pushing, etc.
  5. Satisfactory clearance of a criminal history records check and drug screening

 

ADDITIONAL DESIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Possess a contractor's license in some capacity
  2. Supervisory experience in a maintenance and operations related organization
  3. EPA certification
  4. Mastery of proper use and care of equipment, tools and materials related to the particular trade or craft

PRIMARY PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Supervises and coordinates the activities of the mechanics engaged in installing, servicing, and repairing HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) and refrigeration units utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipe- fitting and structural layout.
  2. Types of equipment to be maintained and serviced are exhaust systems equipment, walk-in coolers, reach-in freezers, reach-in refrigerators, ice machines, water coolers, and all types and sizes of air conditioning systems, from DX units to water-cooled chillers.
  3. Repairs installed units by examining visually for defective parts, or determines the cause of the malfunction by performing tests, utilizing knowledge of mechanical, electrical and refrigeration theory.
  4. Must have extensive knowledge and total understanding of HVAC operations, i.e. heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment control sequences and all other associated components.
  5. Mounts compressors and condensing units on platforms or floors using hand tools.
  6. Cuts and bends tubing to correct length and shape using cutting and bending equipment and tools.
  7. Joins tubing or pipes to various refrigerating units by means of sleeves, couplings, or unions and soldering joints, using a torch, forming a complete circuit for refrigerant.
  8. Connects motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls and circulating-ventilation fans to control panels and connects control panels to power source.
  9. Be proactive in identifying preventative maintenance needs with all School Board HVAC equipment.
  10. Maintains a program that tracks use of refrigerant utilized in day-to-day operations.
  11. Maintains proper operation and condition of all tools and equipment.
  12. Operates vehicles in a safe and lawful manner.
  13. Maintains all required paperwork and records (daily/weekly).
  14. Performs related work as required.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

Other duties as assigned by supervising administrator

TERM:

Length of contract and number of hours worked are determined by specific allocation as approved annually during planning-budgeting process

APPRAISAL:

Performance will be appraised annually in accordance with School Board Policy

PAY GRADE:

According to the School Board of Highlands County Non-Instructional Support Personnel Salary Schedule
