About the role

Operational Risk Management (ORM) – Data Risk is part of Citi’s second line of defense (2LoD). Our mission is to drive comprehensive and consistent practices designed to identify, measure, monitor, report and manage operational risks while promoting the implementation of actions to address root causes which may lead to unintended operational losses.

ORM-Data Risk consists of experienced professionals who apply subject matter expertise to objectively evaluate, independently oversee, and constructively challenge first line of defense (1LoD) teams, governance, processes and controls.

The Data Senior Risk Officer SVP – US Personal Banking and Wealth Management will be responsible for identifying, anticipating, challenging, and overseeing the mitigation of risks that could affect business objectives and minimizing operational risk events and losses. The individual will lead coverage for US Personal Banking and Wealth on all elements pertaining to data risk in close coordination with the business operational risk coverage team.

Key Responsibilities:

The Data Risk Officer – SVP – US Personal Banking and Wealth Management will ideally be an established risk manager with experience in providing oversight of data or technology risk, inclusive of governance, in a globally complex, dispersed and diverse consumer banking entity.

The ideal candidate will have deep experience across disciplines of data and/or technology risk with the following capabilities:

  • Demonstrable track record of identifying, assessing, monitoring, and measuring data risks within a highly complex global business.

  • Credibility when assessing adherence to policies/standards and adoption of data governance capabilities and initiatives within a data governance program.

  • Proficiency in risk and control data analysis, in particular the ability to incorporate and understand a mass of information from a variety of sources to recommend a course of action.

  • Ability to effectively challenge implementation of current state efforts that support global programs, including identifying and managing interdependencies between programs and providing transparency to stakeholders.

  • Responsibility to appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation, and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively overseeing the activity of others and creating accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.

  • Broad experience across personal banking and wealth management products and functions to include exposure to operational risk management within this domain

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills in a complex, diverse environment

Education and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s/University degree; Master’s degree preferred

  • 10 years of experience in operational risk management, data management/governance, control-related functions, or in-business risk and control groups in a financial services firm

  • Experience in engaging and supporting engagements with regulators; broad knowledge of data-related regulatory requirements and expectations for financial institutions.

  • Experience leading teams both formally and informally.

  • Fluent English language skills

  • Broad and comprehensive knowledge and understanding of banking operations including regulatory requirements

  • In-depth knowledge of data management, data governance, data quality or related data concepts (DAMA-DMBoK preferred)

  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g. CDMP, CISSP, C
