Patient Care Assistant (Operating Room), Full Time Days

Under supervision of the RN, serves as an integral member of the health care team by performing clerical and patient care assignments as delegated and permitted by law and regulatory bodies and institutional policies and procedures.

PLEASE NOTE: This position is not a summer only position.  You will need to be able to maintain this schedule throughout the year.

Pay Range:  $15.30 - $19.62/hour

Employment Type:  Full Time, 80 hours every 2 weeks

Schedule:  Monday - Friday, Master schedule with a mixture of 6:00 am - 2:30 pm, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm, and 9:00 am - 5:30 pm

Requirements:  High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required or proof of higher education, BLS for the Healthcare Provider by 60 days after hire required

STANDARDS

• Reports patient safety issues utilizing the occurrence reporting system.
• Assists with data collection for quality improvement activities.
• Assists with the identification of actual and potential risks to patient safety.
• Achieves unit specific initial and ongoing competencies.
• Interacts with and contributes to the professional development and training of peers, colleagues, and students.
• Achieves hospital and department standards by following, maintaining, and complying with policies and procedures.

UNIT MAINTENANCE

• Performs ongoing supplies inventory, including restocking and unboxing.
  • Stocks Core, sub-sterile areas, and OR’s.
  • Cleans OR’s in an efficient and thorough manner, abiding by regulatory and standard practice.
  • Dates and restocks irrigation bags and containers.
  • Setting up of OR’s in the morning
    • Correct bed position
    • Correct equipment in room, ready for use
• Complies with regulatory regarding proper PPE utilization with the use of cleaning materials.
• Assists with regulatory checks as delegated.
  • Weekly eye washing station maintenance
  • Formaldehyde checks
  • Closed Waste Management System maintenance.
• Maintains a neat, uncluttered environment in the OR.
• Assists with patient care in the aspects of the following:
  • Patient transfers, issuing warm blankets
  • Finding beds for patients staying in the hospital
  • Ensuring clean linen is on stretchers and beds
  • Helping with our pediatric population
  • Collaborates with other members of surgical team to facilitate/coordinate maximum patient outcomes.
  • Supports other areas of the OR with training and delegating of duties to other staff as needed.
