Description
OverviewThe Center for Educators and Schools Curriculum Research Associate will conduct archival research in support of the design of developmentally appropriate learning experiences for students in grades K-12. In collaboration with the Manager of Curriculum Development, Curriculum Writers, and the entire CES team, the Research Associate will be responsible for conducting research in NYPL’s collections and preparing reports and briefs on specific items that educators can use to explore new historical narratives and cutting-edge humanistic inquiry with their students.
The Curriculum Research Associate will work closely with NYPL curators, librarians, and archivists to search our vast and varied archival collections for materials that are well-suited for pedagogical purposes and write research briefs contextualizing and historicizing selected items.
The NYPL Center for Educators and Schools is a new initiative that focuses on helping educators use the rich resources of the library. The Center offers programs for educators to order sets of books and professional development, and is working on exhibition-related learning experiences, and on developing curricula and workshops related to the library’s archival collections. As it grows, the Center will also host lectures, public talks, fellowships, and other experiences for educators and schools. CES is interested in colleagues whose work is guided by humane, intersectional, anti-racist, anti-oppressive, and liberatory values.
Responsibilities
- Perform archival research in NYPL’s research libraries with an eye to finding items that have high pedagogical value
- Prepare thematic research reports and briefs to give historical context to archival items
- Prepare research reports that provide an overview of the most recent scholarship in a given area, especially highlighting scholarly debates in historiography
- Prepare bibliographies and lists of scholars who are working in a given field
Required Education, Experience & Skills
Required Education, Certifications & Experience- Masters Degree in the humanities or MSed
- Minimum of 1 years experience classroom teaching, experience with virtual/hybrid classroom teaching preferred, experience with K-12 preferred
- 1 to 3 years experience with research skills, with a focus on archival research
- Strong project & time management skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Knowledge of current trends and issues in scholarly communication and research
- Communicate regularly and substantively with curriculum writers, curators, librarians, researchers, and user groups
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain close and productive working relationships with colleagues and constituents in an environment where consultation, flexibility, collaboration, and cooperation are essential
Preferred Qualifications
- Teaching experience (K-12 preferred)
- Knowledge of human developmental stages / Familiarity with children & care-giving

Schedule
- 150 Hours over the course of 15 weeks.
- 1 hour supervisory/check-in meetings per week, scheduled M-F, 9-5.
