SWOG Cancer Research Network is a national clinical trials cooperative group funded by the National Cancer Institute. The Publications Coordinator is a member of the SWOG Cancer Research Network Statistics and Data Management Center (SDMC) team, in the Public Health Sciences Division. The primary activities of the SWOG SDMC include 1) the design, implementation and analysis of clinical trials that assess therapeutic interventions for all types of adult cancers as well as cancer control and prevention trials; 2) support of translational research to target markers of disease prognosis and treatment prediction; and 3) development of methodology to improve clinical trials design.

 

This position coordinates SWOG’s scientific publications process, overseeing the publication of more than 100 cancer research manuscripts and abstracts each year in peer-reviewed journals and meeting proceedings.

Responsibilities

  • Working closely with SWOG Publications Manager to collect, enter and track data associated with SWOG publications by clinical study teams. Maintain up to date entry into publications database to facilitate dashboard and ad hoc reporting.
  • Work with SWOG Publications Manager to monitor deadlines and due dates. Apprise Group Leadership of challenges and delinquencies with manuscripts, including resolution.
  • Track timelines related to review of manuscripts and abstracts to ensure compliance with grant and contracted requirements.
  • Monitor and track completion of required forms, including conflict of interest disclosure forms.
  • In collaboration with the SWOG Publications Manager, track journal and conference submissions and notices of acceptance or no acceptance. Enter required data into Publications database on a regular weekly schedule, including, but not limited to, citations data entry for published/accepted/submitted/rejected/pending publications.
  • Prepare regular reports on publications. Including, but not limited to:
    • NIH/NCI grant progress reports
    • Publication information in response to requests from SWOG Lead Academic Participating Site Principal Investigators for progress reports
    • SWOG bi‐ annual group meeting agenda booklets
    • Ad hoc requests from Disease/Discipline Committee Chairs for various publication reports
    • Data to support the annual SWOG Impact Report
    • Reports for annual CIRB Continuing Reviews of active trials
  • Provide support for the SWOG Publications Committee as needed.
  • Participate in meetings of the NCTN Intergroup Publications Ad Hoc Committee.
  • Work with SDMC staff, SWOG Communications and Public Relations Manager, and SWOG’s Administrative Leadership to refine and enhance the database system for tracking and reporting on publications.
  • Provide maintenance and continuous improvement of the tracking system for closed studies, where results are pending publication.
  • Write and update standard operating procedures for publication tasks.
  • Stay current with federal and non-federal regulations, policies, and processes, adapting practices, as necessary. Recommend process changes to improve efficiency and effectiveness of SWOG’s publication function.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in related field or equivalent experience with database management, including entering data and performing relational database queries.
