Position Overview

The Corrections Maintenance Craftsman at Hill Correctional Center is responsible for performing maintenance work at a journeyman level in repair of facility buildings, equipment and machinery, as well as monitoring individuals in custody in performing basic maintenance duties on facility buildings and equipment. We are seeking a highly motivated and organized individual with maintenance experience to serve in the role. Job Responsibilities

1. Performs maintenance work at a journeyman level in the repair of the facility buildings, equipment, and machinery.
2. Monitors individuals in custody in performing basic maintenance duties on facility buildings and equipment.
3. Fabricates and revises metal fixtures within the facility in order to repair and/or adapt them to the function which best suits the facility.
4. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of high school.
2. Requires experience necessary to qualify as a journeyman in one of the maintenance or automotive repair trades.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Prefers at least four (4) years of experience applying institutional rules, regulations, and requirements for the control of individuals in custody.
2. Prefers at least four (4) years of experience working with tools, materials, methods, and standard practices of the trade.
3. Prefers at least four (4) years of experience planning and laying out work according to requirements of assignment while leading individuals in custody by example and instruction.
4. Prefers at least four (4) years of experience reading, interpreting, and preparing blueprints and plans for jobs to be completed.

Conditions of Employment

1. Requires completion of an approved course in guard training within six (6) months of employment.

2. Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
3. Requires ability to pass a drug screen.  The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
4. Applicants are required to abide by all vaccine and/or other medical standards as set out by the employer.
