Training program schedule: Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm.
Class Dates: November 11th-15th
Site/Shift/FTE after Graduation: To be determined during interview process
Major Responsibilities:
- Develops proficiency and theoretical knowledge of phlebotomy through lectures, reading assignments, and demonstrations.
- Develops the skill of phlebotomy using appropriate technique based on the physical and psychosocial needs of the patient. Learns how to examine phlebotomy site to insure patient safety and satisfaction. Prepares, administers and collects specimens and ensures proper labeling.
- Reviews, prioritizes laboratory test orders, and determines the appropriate method and type of specimen to be obtained. Pulls collection lists and labels at designated time. Distributes them according to daily assignments.
- Documents all phlebotomy activities as required by department protocols.
- Becomes skilled at laboratory information system (LIS) computer functions, including but not limited to specimen collection/ verification, order resolution, and comment entry. Investigates and resolves any conflicting or confusing orders.
- Promotes a safe working environment in the laboratory. Follows established laboratory safety procedures in accordance with College of American Pathologists (CAP)Accrediting Organization, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and other regulatory agencies.
- Maintains a clean work area and learns how to maintain equipment in accordance with established protocols and time frames.
- Gains skills to independently diffuse adverse patient situations in a positive manner. Appropriately responds to patient interactions and is adaptable to changing situations.

- Demonstrated organizational ability and attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to build rapport and relate to all kinds of people.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Must operate all equipment necessary to perform the duties of the job.
- Must have fine motor skills and manual dexterity.
- Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for prolonged periods of time.
- Must be able to lift 35 pounds without assistance.
- Must have functional speech, vision, and hearing.
