SUMMARY

This is high-level technical and administrative work overseeing maintenance and repair of airfield pavements, including asphalt paving, concrete slab repairs, spall repairs, secure fence line repairs, and other repairs completed by in-house staff and contractors. Work requires extensive experience reviewing airfield construction drawings, overseeing airfield construction projects, and FAA Part 139 Certification requirements. Work is performed under strict guidelines such as FAA and TSA, time limitations, and limited supervision. Follow guidelines for public safety, security, and customer service. Work involves considerable contact with the FAA, contractors, airline tenants, and airport employees. Technical supervisory work also includes managing various contractors and construction contracts.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Solicit, manage, monitor, review, and inspect various other roles on maintenance contracts as needed; inspects all work to ensure contract compliance with specifications.
  • Review, investigate, resolve, or make recommendations about requests for service or property maintenance needed all while maintaining FAA part 139 and TSA security compliance requirements. 
  • Coordinate and supervise the daily use and airfield maintenance of supplies and equipment, and make recommendations for repairs. Assign, test, and train on specialized airport-specific equipment.
  • Review and maintain accurate records and work orders daily. 
  • Operate a variety of other equipment, such as loaders, backhoes, dozers, skid steers, dump trucks, multifunction snow plows, and airport-specific snow equipment, during demonstrating or assessing equipment use or capabilities.
  • Perform job duties while complying with all MAT and FAA airport requirements and TSA security requirements.
  • Perform Job duties requiring the operation of vehicles or heavy equipment in/on and around active runway and taxiway environments while following instructions provided by FAA traffic controllers and following airfield signage, lighting, and paint marking instructions.
  • Through the conduct of primary duties, peruses the airfield for discrepancies and either repairs or reports these discrepancies to appropriate personnel.
  • Inspect equipment to determine needed repairs and necessary parts.
  • Assemble quotes and prepare necessary documents for contractor work.
  • Authorize requests for parts, materials, and supplies. Prepare cost and materials estimates on breakdowns and repairs.
  • Ensure completed work is in compliance with FAA circulars.
  • Assist with annual operating and capital budgets.
  • Responds to calls outside of normal work hours and returns to work as needed to resolve urgent problems 24/7/365.

General Information:

  • Works (1st shift, Saturday-Tuesday, 5:30 AM-3:30 PM). This position is considered essential and requires the ability to work other shifts and overtime when required by assignment, inclement weather, or urgent/emergency situations. Subject to emergency calls, back to work.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervise crews of Airfield Maintenance Technicians who are using equipment and performing other miscellaneous duties.
  • Manage and oversee various work tasks performed by contractors and airport staff to ensure division demand and that responsibilities are being met and all while FAA, TSA, and MAT regulations are being followed.
  • Monitor and increase the effectiveness and efficiency of assigned technicians by assigning, directing, and participating in their daily work.  Ensure technicians follow safety rules and department and airport-specific regulations. Keep management fully informed about daily operations.
  • Originate and maintain documentation for employee performance appraisals.
  • Train new technicians and provide ongoing training for experienced technicians. Maintain accurate training records for Division and Aviation-specific training.
  • Ensures that employees are informed of, and comply with, safety rules, operating policies, and personnel regulations.
  • Review records of work performed and materials used in the repair to ensure accuracy and quality of work.
