Job Description

This Sr. Systems Engineer is within the Storage Infrastructure Reliability Engineering Team. The Sr. Systems Engineer, a highly motivated individual contributor responsible for designing and developing effective solutions per SRE-based principles. As part of the team, you will be required to own key modules, perform code and design architectural reviews, suggest best practices and implement design and development standards. The role is for a technologist who has the passion to solve problems, factor old codes, learn and pick up new technologies based on the needs of the organization, and level-up on existing expertise. This position will support, certify, and document storage and backup infrastructure, as well as serve as a Level 2 escalation point for existing infrastructure. This position is expected to interact with Systems, Database, Engineering, Asset Management, Product Development, Operations, Audit and Risk, and various groups within Technology. This role must have strong communication and analytical skills and be able to use software as a tool to manage systems, solve problems, and automate operations tasks.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for scripting and automation tasks as they pertain to periodic metrics gathering for reports
  • Responsible for automation of infrastructure tasks to reduce repetitive or time-consuming processes utilizing SRE principles and practices and an infrastructure as code methodology
  • Must have the ability to gather data from various sources to create ad hoc, proactive, and custom reports as well as recurring dashboards
  • Develop scalable real-time low-latency processing solutions in an agile delivery method
  • Lead and guide the team in design, code, and implement new algorithms to solve complex problems
  • Develop solutions using available tools and technologies and assist the global team in problem resolution by hands-on participation
  • Engage technical workshops with cross-vertical Technology partners for cross-vertical integration in software development
  • Position will require shift-based work hours.  Including, but not limited to, weekend and after hour shifts

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications
• 2+ years of relevant work experience and a Bachelors degree, OR 5+ years of relevant work experience


Preferred Qualifications
• 3 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or more than 2 years of work experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD)
• Experience working on automating, monitoring, mitigating SLOs and infrastructure tasks
• Experience using scripting languages (Golang or Python), with configuration management tools (Ansible/Tableau), service registry and discovery tools, infrastructure orchestration tools (Ansible/Tableau)
• Understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle including Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipeline architecture (Jenkins, GitLab, ArgoProj, Codefresh)
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related field is preferred
• Three or more years of a combination of SAN/Storage/Backup Administration or scripting and automation
• Experience working in large, complex, enterprise datacenter environments
• Experience with UNIX (Linux, AIX, Solaris), VMware or other hypervisors, and Windows operating environments
• Preferred experience in system monitoring tools and techniques for supporting SAN, NAS, and Backups operations, alerting and remediation
