Position Summary

This position is responsible for overseeing operations of the kitchen of the Harvest Food Hub & Kitchen and Enterprise Center as well as developing guidelines, curriculum and ensuring best practices are followed.

MAJOR DUTIES

  • Assist Project Manager day-to-day running of Harvest Food Hub and Harvest Market. Includes resourcing new locally made products, inputting inventory and pricing, produce handling, cash handling and staff supervision. Also aid in logistical support for meetings, trainings and departmental planning activities.
    • Weekly assist with Food Hub & Harvest Market sales activities, including transport and set-up at a variety of locations

  • Oversee the development of curriculum for all culinary-related classes. May use personal resources and/or work with adjunct instructors and contracted experts as needed to develop curriculum, including CWD classes, kitchen incubator program, and workshops, food safety, and business resources.

  • Collaborate with existing kitchen incubator programs as needed to resource materials and methods for programs.

  • Assists customers and clients with one-on-one consultations, research into food production, food safety, and permitting.

  • Coordinate efforts to expand programs to the community and serve as liaison between business owners, farmers/producers, and the project manager (including identifying needs, matching businesses with mentors, scheduling appointments, ensuring best practices are followed).

  • Assist with grant application, including writing, researching and editing proposals and implementing of programs as a result being awarded any grants.

  • Implements kitchen rental and usage guidelines.

  • Implements food safety and usage guidelines for the kitchen, and supervising the adherence to those guidelines.

  • Oversees the scheduling of the shared-use kitchen.

  • Overseeing the proper use and maintenance of all kitchen equipment and supply needs, reporting to the Project Manager based on kitchen user input and assessment.

  • Supervises kitchen customers and overall operations.

  • Related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

  • Knowledge of commercial kitchen operations, equipment needs
  • Skill in working with point of sale systems and inventory.
  • Skills in Customer service practices and training.
  • Skills in developing training or curriculum and overseeing Adjunct Instructors.
  • Knowledge of food safety requirements for food businesses, including Environmental Department permits and state regulations.
  • Ability to work with partners to find experts.
  • Skill in logistics/scheduling of multiple groups.
  • Supervisory experience with businesses.
  • Skills in project management, including planning and workflow.
  • Knowledge of commercial kitchen operations and planning ability.
  • Networking and communication skills, experience in food systems

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The Harvest University Center Project Manager assigns work in terms of goals and objectives. The supervisor reviews the nature and propriety of the final results of completed work.

GUIDELINES

Guidelines include the Food Safety Modernization Act, FDA, New Mexico Environment Department, OSHA safety guidelines, EEOC hiring guidelines, and state/federal/municipal food codes. These guidelines are clear and specific, and require little interpretation.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

  • Curriculum development and project management in addition to working with multiple businesses and stakeholders contribute to the complexity of this position.
  • The purpose of this position is to support the Harvest Food Hub and the Enterprise Center by supporting job creation and workforce training in the food and agricultural sector. Success in this position contributes to San Juan College students learning how food systems operate.
