Secure Mission Solutions (SMS) is seeking a Principal Software Engineer Lead to join a highly accomplished, multi-discipline organization responsible for developing software solutions for RTX products. This position supports the Trusted Mission Processing (TMP) product area within the Mission Systems strategic business unit of Collins Aerospace, an RTX business. TMP provides secured processing platforms and capabilities to both domestic and international customers. This specific position will provide software engineering team technical leadership and development/integration support for the Saving Grace project within the mission area.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record leading a software team to develop, integrate, and augment software solutions to meet technical requirements and performance measures within project budget and schedule constraints. The candidate will learn existing software products and provide technical guidance to the software team to accomplish updates, HW/FW/SW integration test, and to formally demonstrate solutions.  The successful candidate must be able to collaborate and effectively communicate technical approach, constraints, performance as well as project status to varied audiences including program leadership, multi-disciplined engineering teams, and software engineering peers.

Qualifications/Experience Needed:
    • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience
    • 8+ years of embedded, real-time software development experience
    • Advanced C/C++ experience with understanding of embedded hardware application
    • Xilinx SDK, FPGA/firmware or FW/SW interface development experience
    • Solid understanding of computer architecture, operating systems, and modern interfaces: Ethernet, PCIe, and other types of protocols
    • Solid understanding of headless embedded software design – considers CPU, memory limitations of embedded systems and how the code impacts such architectures
    • Technical leadership of an engineering team to successfully implement, integrate, and deliver the solution
    • Ability to work across multiple engineering disciplines to deliver balanced approach to resolve technical issues
    • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills. Ability to document and effectively communicate software approach, constraints, design and rationale to various audiences
    • Demonstrated software development, systems integration, creative problem-solving skills, and system/software validation
    • Ability to adapt to new/evolving requirements definition and application
    • Self-starter, capable of directing work of others and mentoring junior engineers
    • Experience with product development utilizing standard software development processes
    • Active SECRET Security Clearance or higher REQUIRED

Security Clearance:
    • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date
    • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
    • Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance.  Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements.
