The Raytheon Mechanical Engineering (ME) Organization leads the mechanical hardware design, development and production of radar, sonar, torpedo, and combat system equipment. The ME Team uses state-of the-art tools, processes, technology, and Raytheon’s Six Sigma principles. ME’s capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering, manufacturing, technical services, materials, processes, analysis, test, and documentation.
The Air Defense Ground Equipment (ADGE) Department leads mechanical design, development, and integration of platform systems. This includes shelter systems, hardware integration, cable & interconnections, as well as facility development, and site integration. The department is comprised of individuals with technical expertise and experience in hardware design, integration, and production support.
The ADGE department is looking for a full-time Senior Mechanical Engineer – Design Lead, located in Tewksbury, MA
This is an onsite role.
What You Will Do:
- Perform mechanical design, development, and documentation of components, sub-assemblies, for BMC4I system and equipment in accordance with system requirements.
- Lead design effort, within integrated product team, of variable size (3 – 10 members).
- Collaborate across multiple disciplines with Structural and Thermal analyst, Materials Engineering, Quality, Safety, Supply Chain.
- Lead EAC review, program planning, schedule and cost planning.
- Support the factory and suppliers with product integration, domestically and internationally.
- Interface with other engineering disciplines, non-technical disciplines, and suppliers to develop design solutions and resolve technical challenges.
- Work with limited supervision and meet commitments for assigned schedule, financial, and technical goals.
- Support and participate in design peer reviews, resolving action items, and conduct trade studies to make sound technical decisions.
- Working knowledge of First Article Inspection process (FAI), work along side Quality engineers in support of that in addition to Raytheon Source Inspection (RSI).
- Apply knowledge and experience in technical problem solving and hardware development in a fast paced, team environment.
- Mentor and guide less experienced engineers.

Qualifications You Must Have:
- Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience OR an Advanced degree in a related field and a minimum of 3 years’ experience.
- 5 years of experience in a Mechanical Engineering role
- Experience with designing and developing mechanical equipment and/or hardware, preferably for use in Military environments.
- Experience with ANSI/ASME Y14.5 GD&T (Geometric Dimension and Tolerances)
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Experience with metal fabrication and assembly joining techniques (Fasteners, rivets, inserts), welding and/or bonding a plus.
- Design and assembly experience associated with electronics packaging for use in mobile/ruggedized environment.
- Experience with Drill Guides and tool fixturing for field modifications to Major End Items (MEI).
- EVMS certification
- Working knowledge of Military and Commercial Specifications.
- Demonstrated team player, self-driven leader with excellent collaboration skills
- Experience with CAD design tools or related product data management tools, preferably CREO and PTC products.
- Experience in design, fabrication, and integration of electronic assemblies, shelter assemblies, power distribution equipment packaging, and rack system.
- Experience/Understanding of Thermal Analysis.
