Primary Summary:
The Sports Program Lead is the primary service point of contact for practice and gamedays, ensuring positive experiences for participants, parents, and coaches. This role greets all attendees, manages inquiries, and communicates essential practice and game day information. The Lead will resolve conflicts and respond to unique needs in coordination with the Program Director and facility staff. The Lead assists in overseeing practices and games for youth sports to ensure a safe environment for all. Provides a quality experience to members and guests focused on YMCA core values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
Essential Functions:
1. Properly prepare playing areas to ensure safety for all participants.
2. Visible and available to staff, coaches, participants, and fans to answer questions.
3. Listens to concerns, resolves problems, and corrects inappropriate behavior. Documents situations and relays them to the YMCA Director as needed.
4. Immediately notify the supervisor of any item of value that is left at a YMCA facility to receive instructions on where the item is to be stored or delivered.
5. Check in with the supervisor prior to the scheduled shift for any necessary information, instructions, or supply/equipment pickup.
6. Performs the role of an official to monitor play, oversee the safety of players and ensure the particular sports and YMCA rules are followed.
7. Receives and carries out instructions.
8. Maintains regular attendance. If unable to cover scheduled shifts, secure a substitute and notify the supervisor of schedule substitutions prior to the change.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.
 

Employees and volunteers who directly supervise children and teens will:
• Adhere to policies related to boundaries with children and teens
• Attend required abuse risk management training annually
• Adhere to procedures for managing high-risk activities and supervising children and teens. • Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
• Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
1. Must be at least 18 years of age, some college preferred, and possess the experience suitable for the position.
2. Individuals must possess maturity, sound judgment, a strong sense of responsibility, and have developed solid human relations skills.
3. Sound organizational skills, good oral and written communications skills, and attention to detail are essential elements required to perform the duties of this position.
4. Dealing with the public on an ongoing basis; customer service skills are required. 5. General sports knowledge (basketball, soccer, flag football, and volleyball), the rules of the sport, as well as rules specific to YMCA sports.
6. Possesses and demonstrates a strong understanding of the YMCA and its purpose, mission, and values.
7. Must be available to work evenings from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. and Saturdays up to 8 hours during the active sports season.
8. Successful completion of background screening and Child Abuse & Neglect. 9. Acquire and maintain the following certifications via YMCA, American Red Cross, American Heart Association, and American Health and Safety Institute (ASHI): First Aid/CPR /AED (valid 2 years unless otherwise noted)
10.Requisite Praesidium Online Training Modules (completed annually).
 

Physical Demands:
1. Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. as required.
2. Ability to perform moderate physical activity that may include standing, walking, running, crouching, kneeling, bending, twisting, and reaching.
3. The nature of the environment is one in which the employee may come in contact with outside weather conditions that may include hot/cold temperatures, rain, wind, insects, etc.
