Job Overview
The Seasonal Manager, Costume Operations oversees costume assignment deadlines using the Filemaker database and assists with financial oversight, including writing purchase orders, managing contracts, and processing invoices. They maintain office supplies, coordinate UPS shipments and messenger packages, and supervise the balloon costume team regarding distribution, collection, and laundry timelines for Macy’s costumed events, including the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and other holiday events. This role manages the assignment, distribution, collection, cleaning, and storage of 500–600 official jackets, requiring quick familiarity with a large inventory to ensure accurate sizing and costume assignments. The Seasonal Manager is proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and experience in theatre costuming, wardrobe, dressing, stage management, or event production is highly preferred. Additionally, they serve as an event production assistant as needed.
What You Will Do
- Supervise a team of assistants managing approximately 1,800 stock costumes and 500–600 official jackets.
- Size and assign adult costumes and clothing, and oversee 60 dressers in a fast-paced dressing room on parade morning.
- Assist with load-in, load-out, setup, and strike for all events.
- Manage costume preparation, area supply needs, packing, event trucking, venue setup, distribution, event strike, laundry operations, and resetting costumes for storage within the assigned area.
- Oversee proper cleaning, laundry, dry cleaning processes, storage, and maintenance of costumes.
- Maintain and adjust timelines and workflows to ensure deadlines are met.
- Communicate challenges and propose solutions to the leadership team.
- Support the Costume Shop Manager and Costume Director with various tasks, including moving boxes, rolling racks or trunks in the warehouse, answering phones, running errands, office administration, shop cleanup and organization, and small sewing, repairs, or craft projects.

Skills You Will Need
Team Leadership & Supervision – Skilled in managing and motivating a team, including assistants and dressers, to efficiently handle large costume inventories and fast-paced event demands.
Inventory Management & Costume Assignment – Proficient in quickly learning and managing large costume inventories, accurately sizing and assigning costumes and official jackets.
Event Operations & Logistics – Experienced in coordinating load-in/load-out, setup, strike, trucking, laundry operations, and overall event production support.
Process & Timeline Management – Strong organizational skills to maintain, adjust, and meet critical deadlines and workflows in a dynamic environment.
Communication & Collaboration – Practices open, continuous, and respectful communication; effectively presents information and works collaboratively across functional teams and leadership levels.
Financial & Administrative Skills – Capable of managing purchase orders, contracts, invoices, office supplies, and shipment coordination with attention to detail.
Technical Proficiency – Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Filemaker database; basic math and writing skills.
Creative & Strategic Thinking – Able to think creatively and strategically to solve challenges and improve operations.
Sewing & Fabric Care Knowledge – Basic sewing, garment repair skills, and familiarity with fabric cleaning and
