Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Diagnostic Imaging Services, the Registered Nurse has an indirect reporting relationship to the C.N.O.  Daily activities are coordinated through an RN Charge Nurse.  The major goal of the Radiology Nurse is to provide quality nursing care to the patient. Skills utilized in his/her job performance include assessment, communication, teaching, leadership, and management.  The nurse insures patient privacy and dignity.  Areas where the nurse may function are:  General diagnostic, special procedures, nuclear medicine, ultrasound, computerized tomography, interventional radiology and magnetic resonance imaging. Fulfills on-call and weekend requirements as required (applies to Interventional Radiology RN Staff only).                        

1. Performs physical and psychosocial assessment of patients that demonstrates knowledge and consideration of age specific and cultural differences.  Modifies nursing care to meet the age specific requirements of the newborn (0 to 30 days), pediatric (1 to 12 years), adolescent (13 to 17 years), adult (18 to 70 years), and geriatric (71+ years) patients, including but not limited to: growth and development, medications, and special physical and psychosocial needs.                         
2. Provides patient care and management.  Consistently attempts to gain patient cooperation for all examinations the nurse is involved with.  The nurse and/or the physician will always provide an explanation of the examination/procedure.  The physician will explain any risks involved.  Before the examination, the nurse will discuss the need for patient cooperation during the examination.  Obtain a signed consent form.  Consistently record procedural data, as outlined in the “General Guidelines for Documentation” found in the policy and procedure manual.  Measure and record vital signs of patient prior to the procedure to establish a baseline and will physically prepare the patient for the examination to include EKG electrodes and any other physiological equipment as required.  Monitors patients vital signs and electrocardiogram during the procedure and will evaluate any unusual EKG readings as artifact, or wil
