About the role

We are looking for a creative and compelling advocate to join us as Associate General Counsel, Litigation & Policy. You understand that dispute resolution is a craft, that no two disputes are the same, and that storytelling is paramount – from formal prose to iambic poetry. You have a passion for advancing and protecting strategic business priorities through active and pre-dispute methods, including investigations, litigation, government relations, and policy engagement. You will work closely with our legal and business teams, regulators, industry groups, and outside counsel to develop successful dispute and policy strategies that advocate on issues core to Rippling’s business. You love working in a fast-paced environment, take ownership over initiatives, have excellent analytical and communication skills, and fundamentally believe that lawyering need not be boring.

*This is a San Francisco based position, going in office on a hybrid-remote basis.

What you will do

• Act as a key advisor to the business on litigation and strategic risks to the company, including in providing counsel on global investigations, incident management, regulatory engagement, and litigation matters 
• Manage global litigation, pre-litigation disputes, and regulatory matters, proactively managing matters and advising leadership through all phases from pre-dispute to trial and appeal
• Drive strategic initiatives with regulators, policymakers, and relevant industry groups
• Develop and operationalize internal systems for managing litigation risk and active disputes
• Serve as the primary escalation point for our product, sales, account management, and legal teams when disputes arise 
• Design and implement pragmatic, efficient, and scalable legal and compliance dispute policies and processes, including around subpoena response, document retention, and other e-discovery matters
  

What you will need

• 8+ years of litigation experience, with some experience in a government role and/or policy role a plus
• Top notch written advocacy skills, both formal and informal
• Demonstrated problem solver with quick and nimble thinking
• Experience leading litigation activities across the full lifecycle and across various forums and regions
• Experience in regulations applicable to regulated industries such as financial services, fintech, insurance, privacy, and/or employment, including interactions with regulators
• Clear communicator with the ability to break down complex requirements into easy-to-understand and practical advice
• Entrepreneurial mindset (flexible, self-starting and hard-working)
• Sense of humor!
• JD or otherwise authorized to practice law
• Must be fluent in English, fluency in other languages is a plus
