About the role


Summary
 

Efficiently directs all activities associated with underwriting and policy processing for the company. Responsible for the strategic and tactical management of the underwriting staff, as well as maximizing premium production while minimizing financial risk, and underwriting of new and renewal contracts.


Description
 

Oversees the day-to-day underwriting activities including risk selection, determination of proper coverage, policy issuance, rating and pricing, maintenance of satisfactory producer and policyholder service, and all policy processing.

Develops and maintains underwriting rules and regulations to ensure compliance with all currently applicable corporate, state, and federal legislation. Monitors compliance of and communicates changes in underwriting rules and regulations.

Work closely with other functional areas, including finance, loss control, claims, and premium audit, to achieve overall company goals.

Develop agency relationship management strategies to foster long-term relationships that are consistently growing.

Explores new opportunities to streamline and accelerate current policies and procedures.

Required Education: Bachelor's
Degree Equivalency: 4 years job related work experience or Associate's and 2 years job related work experience

Required Work Experience: 10+ Years Underwriting. 2 years in management OR equivalent military experience in grade E4 or above.Required Skills and Abilities: Extensive knowledge of underwriting policies and procedures. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, presentation, and problem solving skills knowledge of basic actuarial principles. Demonstrates efficient supervisory/motivational ability.

Required Software and Other Tools: Knowledge of automated insurance systems and Microsoft Office.

Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree-Any Major

Preferred Work Experience: 10 + Years-Underwriting. 5 years in management OR equivalent military experience in grade E4 or above.

Preferred Skills and Abilities: Ability to develop detailed business, product, and marketing plans in support of new programs.

Preferred Software and Other Tools: Knowledge of database software.

Preferred Licenses and Certificates: Accredited by and/or a member of a national insurance society. Professional certification.

Work Environment: Typical office environment. Local and out-of-town travel required.
