Associate Director, International Tax

Grant Thornton is seeking a Associate Director, International Tax to join the team in Downers Grove, IL.

Position Summary:

In close collaboration with firm leadership, the Associate Director, International Tax in the Internal Tax group is responsible for delivering a full range of tax planning, consulting and compliance services related to our International Accounting Firm.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Manage workstreams from start to finish, which includes planning, executing, directing, and completing international tax projects and managing to a timeline.
• Deliver a full range of international tax services including compliance management and tax return review, tax research, preparation of technical memorandums and consulting.
• Review tax returns and make recommendations on compliance process management. Conduct primary and secondary review of complicated or complex international tax returns to ensure quality.
• Consult with firm leadership on tax-efficient structuring of our global operating enterprise, effective use of tax treaties, planning related to offshore investment activities and repatriation strategies to minimize U.S. and foreign income taxes.
• Manage tax authority proceedings including development of responses to inquiries from the IRS and other tax authorities.
• Research and consult on various tax operational matters; enhance utilization of tax software to prepare and process returns and research tax matters.
• Support cross-border resource mobility and related tax matters.

Required Skills and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
• Minimum 7 to 9 years of progressive tax advisory experiencewith at least three years focused on international taxation.
• Experience with a large accounting firm, law firm, or corporate tax department of a multinational company.
• Strong tax accounting skills with proficiency in US GAAP, tax compliance, and corporate and partnership returns.
• CPA or JD/active law license required.
• Ability to supervise staff and lead projects.
• Exceptional communication skills with a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain outstanding relationships.
• Strong computer expertise including knowledge of tax software and technology.

• Ability to travel as needed.

The base salary range for this position in the firm's Downers Grove, IL office is between $144,000 and $216,000 per year.
