Position purpose:
Manage and supervise the day-to-day operations of the Centre d'aide à la rédaction des travaux universitaires (CARTU) and coordinate the services and activities offered to students in connection with academic writing. Ensure the ongoing training of mentors, design and implement training programs, organize workshops and monitor the progress of mentors.
Works in collaboration with faculties and departments to develop training content that is relevant and adapted to the needs of mentors throughout the University, in order to maintain a community of best practices related to mentoring.
In this role, your responsibilities will include:
- CARTU Management: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the center, including scheduling writing mentors, coordinating appointments with students, and managing necessary hardware and software resources.
- Recruit and train writing mentors: recruit, select and train writing mentors to provide writing support. Organize regular training sessions to develop writing mentors' skills.
- Provide writing support: offer individual writing sessions to university students in different fields of study. Help students develop their academic writing skills, structure their work and improve their writing style.
- Complementary activities and services. Design and implement a service offering for students that meets the needs identified by faculties and departments. These services can take many forms (writing workshops, café de rencontres, procrastination nights, etc.).
- Collaboration: collaborates with faculties and departments to develop and coordinate activities and services for undergraduate and graduate students related to academic writing (writing café, anti-procrastination activities, etc.).
- Resources and support: Develop and maintain a bank of academic writing resources including style guides, sample assignments, referencing tools and text checking software. Provide assistance to writing mentors in the use of these resources.
- Communication: Work closely with the Student Affairs Communications Officer to promote CARTU's programming of activities.
What you will bring:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and a minimum of 5 years' experience in customer service OR Master's degree in a relevant discipline and a minimum of 2 years' experience in customer service (Master's degree preferred)
- Experience in tutoring, mentoring or formal teaching
- Excellent academic writing and verbal communication skills in French and English
- Organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
