Description

Overview

The Communications & Marketing Department promotes and positions The New York Public Library as a cultural and educational leader in New York City and around the world. The Social Media Page works to support communications efforts on social media by highlighting the Library’s services, programs, events, exhibitions, and collections.
To aid in this promotional activity, the Social Media Page helps with writing posts, image and video editing, content creation, and ideation. Assist with scheduling social media posts and maintaining a robust social media calendar.

The library page position is scheduled for 19 hours per week, which may include evenings and Saturdays. Schedules are variable based on library needs and may be subject to change.

Key Responsibilities
Under the direction of a Page supervisor, the Library Page:
  • Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Multimedia & Engagement, the Social Media Page helps with a variety of tasks assisting within the department, including:
  • Scheduling posts to the Library’s social media accounts, including Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter/X, and TikTok.
  • Assists with writing social media posts that are engaging and adhere to Library style guides.
  • Basic image and video editing to format content for different social media platforms.
  • Assist in maintaining a robust social media calendar.
  • Work as a team to pitch ideas for social media posts based on current events, upcoming Library initiatives, and trending memes.
  • Liaise with other departments within the Library to acquire assets for internal initiatives.
  • Performs other related tasks as needed

Required Education, Experience & Skills

Required Education and Certifications Required Experience
  • Experience using social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, and TikTok
Required Skills
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office programs, the Google suite, the Internet, and e-mail programs
  • Strong writing skills with attention to detail
  • Some skills in Adobe Photoshop and Premiere or other image and video editing software
  • Demonstrated interest in social media
  • Demonstrated interest in Library services, such as books, education, or archives
  • Demonstrated flexibility, reliability, and initiative
  • Ability to work with a team and on independent projects
