While under the supervision of the Wildlife Management Area Wildlife Foreman, the Fish and Wildlife Technician III will be responsible for implementing the daily technical activities associated with the maintenance, management, and enhancement of certain Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs). These areas include the: Kleber WMA, Kentucky River, Rich, Twin Eagle, and the Tennessee Sullivan.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Manage the wildlife habitat as planned by the Public Lands Biologist and Fish and Game Management Foreman. This work will include hands-on participation in management activities including dove food plots, moist soil management, herbicide applications, forest management, prescribed fire, mowing and other techniques as prescribed.
  • Maintain and repair buildings, equipment, roads, property boundaries etc. Facilitate habitat management activities and public recreation. Lead technical staff to perform these activities in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Responsible for the operation of heavy, technical and farm equipment to plant and manage crops to serve as food and habitat for wildlife species. Conduct the safe and effective application of agricultural pesticides.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of vehicles, machinery and equipment and maintaining records.
  • Interact with the public, assist Public Lands and Regional Biologists with research and restoration projects, quota hunts and prescribed burning activities across the Bluegrass Region.
  • Perform administrative duties including purchasing supplies and equipment.
Preferred skills and abilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Experience in the operation and maintenance of tractors, rotary cutters, pull-type disks, herbicide sprayers, ATVs/UTVs, and other agriculture and construction equipment would be preferred.
  • Willing to complete various training sessions and certifications such as KY Pesticide applicator licensing, and KDFWR prescribed fire certifications.
  • Ability to multi-task various job tasks.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: High school graduate.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have three years of fishery, wildlife or habitat management/development experience.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Additional related training will substitute for the required experience on a year for year basis.
