Research Assistant Professor (Biobank)

The Department of Surgery and Wilmot Cancer Institute at University of Rochester is seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant Professor to join our Biobank team. This faculty position will support the collection, processing, and distribution of human biospecimens for translational cancer research.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide scientific and operational support for biospecimen collection, processing, and storage.
• Assist with the development and implementation of new biobanking protocols, including workflows for hematologic and pediatric cancers, as well as preclinical modeling.
• Collaborate with clinical and research teams to coordinate study-specific biospecimen needs.
• Support integration of biobanking activities with preclinical and translational research programs.
• Supervise and mentor technical and research personnel within the biobank.
• Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

 

• Ph.D., M.D., or M.D./Ph.D. in cancer biology, pathology, molecular biology, biomedical sciences, or a related field.
• At least 2 years of postdoctoral or equivalent research experience in a biomedical research or clinical laboratory setting.
• Demonstrated experience with human biospecimen handling, processing, and/or laboratory operations.
• Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and collaborate across disciplines.
• Knowledge of cancer translational research, particularly involving hematologic or pediatric malignancies.
• Track record of contributing to grant writing, protocol development, or regulatory submissions.

The referenced pay range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the base range of compensation for this faculty position. Individual salaries will be determined within the job’s salary range and established based on (but not limited to) market data, experience and expertise of the individual, and with consideration to related position salaries. Alignment of clinical incentive-based compensation may also be applicable and will be discussed during the hiring process.
